Monolaurin for long covid?

Posted by greg1234 @greg1234, Feb 27, 2023

Greetings, friends, long covid for a long time here. A friend's son is taking Monolaurin after mono and given all the research into Epstein-Barr Virus and long covid, I wondered if anyone has tried it? Thank you, Be well, Greg

I am wondering this too, I don't know if it can hurt to try it? Waiting on one more appt (and some test results) with my Functional Med Dr to ask about this, please post or message if you decide to try it if you don't mind. Thanks for bringing it up.

I just learned of “long covid” yesterday from my Nurologist. I was hospitalized 6 months ago with covid. Since then I have suffered from loss of taste & appetite. Dizziness, brain fog & fatigue. I’m 87, female. Live alone in my own home and enjoyed pretty good health before Covid. I’ve really gone downhill since then. I’m concerned that the dizziness, especially, will never go away.

I take black seed oil and oregano oil which are supposed to be effective against ebv. I’ve heard that coconut oil might have some benefits too

How long have you been taking it? Has it lowered your EBV levels?

I don’t know. I was out of insurance over two months and my new insurance doesn’t start until next month. I’ve had mono and know the links between EBV and autoimmune diseases as well as covid. I also take oregano oil which is supposed to suppress EBV. I struggle with autoimmune disease and since Covid it’s been worse.

I also suffered from dizziness and loss of balance. Physical therapy helped the balance problems a lot, but what helped the most for dizziness and brain fog was getting on an anti-inflammatory diet, including giving up coffee. And also starting antihistamines, including famotidine.

I wanted to respond to you. I am an 85-year-old woman who also has long covid and was healthy and active before this illness. It is tough. I am constantly evaluating whether symptoms are related to long covid or aging. This sharing helps. Hope we find a way through this.

Hello all, replying to a couple of responses together. ---I did start taking monolaurin. I started at a low dose, because I cannot tolerate many supplements. I have not had a gut flareup since I started, which could be coincidence, as I started monolauren right after my last episode. ---Monolaurin is derived from coconut oil. ---No improvement in cognitive issues, although I was not expecting any. Big study at a UCLA clinic came out recently on neuro impact of covid, just fyi. Be well! Greg

Hello I just read your message from last year. I am also 85 and was healthy and active until I got long Covid in early 2023. I struggle with fatigue and brain fog i wonder how you are doing and I would love to hear from someone my own age.
All best,
Joan

Greetings, Joan. Sad to say I am beginning my third year of this disorder. It has robbed me of the exercise and socialization I thrived on. I had to give up my driver's license because of double vision. Every week seems to bring a new pain. I have found no medical help and exhausted all things I can do on my own. I hope we live long enough to see a breakthrough. Thanks for reaching out. Linda
