Does anyone have short bowel syndrome?
5 years ago I had a small intestines blockage and had to have all but 2 feet of my small intestines removed. I was on TPN and a feeding tube for a couple years years now I am eat food. I am able to eat most foods except raw vegetables and high fiber foods.
Over two years ago I started having constant abdominal spasms and constant nausea, doctors don't know what is causing it. The spasms feels like someone is twisting my insides and some pressure. Nausea medications don't help with the nausea.

tJanet, me again, I just saw on the right side of my screen a blog for GI plus issues. I have not used any of the blogs, but, hey, they are the ones suffering and might have some good ideas for you.
I have several signs of dehydration but blood results says no. What can I do to help with dehydration symptoms? I am not to drink plain water because it doesn't absorb in my body because of short gut syndrome.
Drink Pedialyte or a homemade mix of 1 L water plus 2 Tbsp sugar and 3/4 tsp salt (I add 1 packet of True Lemon to it to improve the taste).
Anyone else have short gut syndrome?
I only have about 2ft of my small intestines left. Having a lot of diarrhea and dehydration symptoms.
Doctors are having a difficult time treating me for my symptoms.
Hi @tjanet I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I had my colon removed and now have an ileostomy. Dehydration is a major problem which has led to kidney issues. My situation certainly differs from yours, but the one take-away you might consider is preparing and drinking Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS). Under the best of circumstances, the small intestine has difficulty absorbing fluids. However when combined with sugar and a little salt you can almost feel yourself getting hydrated. Here's a link to some good information about ORS.

I wish you well!

Does anyone have short gut syndrome? I have only 2ft of my small intestines left but still have my large intestines. Having problems with dehydration, diarrhea and nausea. My doctors haven't figured out a good treatment plan for me, yet.
Hi @tjanet, for the dehydration, I have been buying or making Oral Rehydration Solutions. They are simply water, sugar and salt. My go-to is Gatorade (the original with sugar) watered down, with a quarter teaspoon of salt. This is for a 10 - 12 oz glass. Apparently this helps with absorption. Try to get ahead of the nausea and diarrhea -Dave
I have been drinking rehydration drinks. But I am only able to drink about 20 ounces before I get extremely nauseated. Anymore fluids than 20 ounces my body doesn't like and I start to vomit.
I even drink it slow and it still happens.
I'm so sorry to hear that. You are up against enough without rejecting fluids too. I guess best wishes are all I have to offer.
I had 2 back-to-back colon surgeries due to an abscess from the first surgery. I now have short gut(bowel) syndrome & am getting 2 infusions/week of potassium, magnesium & fluids. Still struggling to keep my Creatine levels lower. What can I do to prevent more kidney injuries?
