ET and chemical pre-cautions?
Im 64 got diagnosed with ET about 2 years ago based on blood work (Jak2). My hematologist says I’m textbook ET My count is at 713K and on 2 81mg aspirins a day so far. My doctor asking told me to stay away from chemicals like pesticides and Benzene. Has anyone else had any other mentions on what to stay clear off when having these blood disorders?

Mayo was not the one who posted the article…. someone who read the Mayo article elsewhere then posted it on this site! Merle
Hi Merle, I wonder if it’s this article: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/heart-disease/in-depth/daily-aspirin-therapy/art-20046797
I think my age 91 was big factor…. and fact that at that age if I have other issues where bleeding could be involved, as I do,
(and probably most folks above ??? age do) then maybe best to consider other avenues to reduce platelets! Just saying that the Mayo article seemed to me to be the most in depth that I have come across! There may be other articles that take different tact and if so I would love to read them!
Merle, was this by any chance the article you wanted to read about baby aspirin? It’s from the Mayo website.

Thanks for the aspirin discussion. I am 70, and will ask the hemo this fall if she thinks I should drop it or switch to something else after a certain age. I do take ibuprofen a few times a week for aches and pains, so will ask about that, too.
We weren’t aware of some of the quiet side effects of baby aspirin either. My husband and I both took it for years on the advice of our PCP. I stopped taking after a couple of years when I began associating the aspirin with a weird pattern of ‘wheezing’…nothing serious but the same small reaction I used to have with a sensitivity to almonds.
My husband, around the age of 70 began having serious stomach issues which we initially associated with stress possibly brought on by my leukemia/bmt adventure; though he said he didn’t feel stressed.
I’d read about aspirin’s involvement with stomach ulcers and in ‘typical male fashion’, he poo-pooed that idea. LOL. Anyway, he eventually had an endoscopy which revealed his wife was right (shock!) and he indeed had an ulcer caused by the baby aspirin.
Recently had a follow-up endo and it’s all clear. But it shows the potential dangers of the little innocuous baby aspirin.
YES! Yes…. thanks!
Glad to see you got a grant. How is your Pegasys journey going? What starting dose are you taking?
My hematologist wants me to get platelets to 400 or less….so she now has me taking 4x a week (was 3x). My last count was 555. My headache issue is finally minimal.
Best wishes, Eileen
So far so good. No side effects as of today. Get my next injection Monday 9/2
thanks for asking
I hope your Pegasys journey is going well. I keep reading about a worldwide shortage of the drug. Has it been an issue for you?
I am doing well, taking HU 4x a week to try to get platelets below 400.
