Well I know this post won't be popular by some. I'm 76 been treated with hydroxyurea for 2 years. When the covid came around I took one vaccine, that's all. I've never had covid, I haven't taken the flu vaccine and never had the flu. Because I'm an asthmatic I did take the pneumonia shot just before I started treatment with hydroxyurea...My hematologist wanted me to take the shingles vaccines but I refused simply because I never even had a cold sore. One day I may be sorry but it's my opinion,, my choice and never wished I had handled it any other way...Everyones immune system is different so I'm not saying I'm right..What I'm saying it's diffinatly works for me....To those who are suffering with multiple cor
morbidity's and covid I wish you well.

Cumulative life experience for everyone leads to different choices. I had chicken pox as a kid, and my grandmother's shingles led to painful lesions and permanent scars, so I had the vax. My dad died of COPD, so I quit smoking. I would not have open heart surgery after taking care of my mom post AVR so am waiting for transcath procedure approval. I have two cousins who died of covid in their 60s, so I get the vax.

Your personal choices are fine by me.

But the irony of coming into a "support" group and implying that people who are covid-vaccinated are part of some "hysteria" conspiracy is not lost on me.

Have a great day!

Two different viruses, Jakie. The herpes SIMPLEX virus causes cold sores, not shingles. It lies dormant in the trigeminal nerve, under the nose and sideways out around the upper teeth, and that is why cold sores appear there, including inside the nostrils (don't ask!). Shingles is from residual viral activity left over by chicken pox, or the herpes zoster. Shingles, as we should all know, can show up on the neck, , in the scalp, on one's temples, around the eyes, BEHIND the eyes !!, the ribcage, the midriff...

Two different sources.

Hello @jackiecarey. I'd like to remind members of the community guidelines, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/about-connect/tab/community-guidelines/. I edited some of your comment to remove some of your post that could be interpreted as political.

Healthcare decisions come down to each one of us. We are not obligated to follow our provider's suggestions. Each of us has to do what we feel is best for us. Not taking vaccines is certainly within those personal decisions that each one of us has to make. It is important to consider suggestions from our providers when making each decision. As @gloaming points out, there are different viruses that may have been confused.

In the end, we are all navigating difficult medical journeys of one kind or another, but we must remain respectful of each member's experiences while also taking into consideration a medical providers input.
