Hello, if you take NAC how many times a day do you take it and how many mg; so far I take it in the morning together with 600mg of guaiafensin and I was wondering if it should be taken may be in the evening as well. Thank you.

I take a 600 mg capsule twice a day as instructed by my dr at NJH. The bottle also says twice daily.

Research on benefits of NAC for bronchiectasis is a mixed bag. Studies that support its use and studies that show no benefit both exist. Recent pulmonary talks by seemingly really-in-the-know bronchiectasis pulmonologists say not much benefit. That said, the placebo effect is s t r o n g. If you feel it's helpful by all means keep taking. No (terrible) negative side effects that I am aware.

Interesting....your taking the liquid with nebulizer.
Is the liquid available in health store or need for a prescription from doctor?
I took the tablet for first time yesterday and don't know if it was the tablet or my trying a new postural drainage position but I got a great deal of light yellow mucus ((more than any other time) up after both tablet and drainage postion.

Interesting comments @scoop. I’ve been using NAC for about four weeks. I notice that is has thinned out my mucus. At some points during the day or early evening it might not be as thin, but overall, an improvement. I started with 500 mg twice daily with a meal, but have just switched to 600 mg which my pulmonologist mentioned I could take. I do drink 6-8 glasses of water daily.

Some doctors don’t believe probiotics work to help maintain gut health during antibiotics but others do. Some may view NAC’s effectiveness in a similar fashion which might explain why some people don’t hear about NAC.
I had mentioned it to my pulmonologist and they suggested trying it. Probiotics have worked for me, and I’m hoping NAC continues to thin mucus.

Do u neb it with saline or by itself? I tried it by itself and it was harsh on my throat. I use 1 vial of saline and 1ml of NAC. I might do 2 ml and only 1/2 the saline.
