What help is available for very slow motility?
I’ve been searching, for over two years, for help with chronic constipation and slow, to no motility. I’ve tried numerous, expensive, prescriptions, and Dr. said surgery is only option. (I had a Sitz Marker procedure to diagnose low motility) The only relief I get is with Magnesium Citrate. I have, most of my life, had problems with IBS-C but could always solve it with over the counter support. This Doctor is my second opinion. My first Gastroenterologist told me there is nothing that can be done-take Miralax
. I’ve had 2 CT scans with contrast which showed a redundant and torqued colon plus severe constipation. I would love some alternative ideas to increase motility, before having to have surgery.

Thanks for the laugh. Sure, I hate it. I will do just about anything to keep my gut calm and moving.
Do you eat pureed vegetable soups? You can get a lot of nutrition that way. You can add protein (powdered egg whites, Lactaid milk, and pea protein isolate powder are my easy-on-the-gut sources of protein).
Have you tried kiwis for CIC? They actually act as a stimulant laxative for many. The Golden Kiwi are meatier and one works for me. Two of the smaller green kiwis might be a good idea too. (There is a study on them. Google: NIH, Kiwi, constipation.)
I tried using kiwi after I saw one of your posts on it. It works!!
Yes motility-Freudion slip
As its not very mobile
Would love to have any movement- have to rely on Magnesium Citrate.
Lost my Dr. because I wanted searched for possible ideas, before having surgery.
Nothing seems to be moving. Colon muscles aren’t doing their job
Mayo has a pelvic floor training program that may help strengthen muscles. They can also refer you to a therapist in your area. Many people with chronic constipation are simply not using their muscles correctly. This can make a big improvement.
I would surely like to try that, even though the dr I saw said that wouldn’t help slow motility.
Thank you
I find that what I eat plays a big role in motility. Also, the drugs and supplements I take. I am having ginger spice with every meal, usually in a hot milk tea. It speeds things up for me. Helps. For other tips, search on ResearchMaven in this blog. I have a lot going on with my gut. Some of it is motility.

I also have slow motility. These tips have really helped me. No gimmick foods or supplements. Best wishes.
Great comments, thank you. If I could follow that advice, I surely would. At this time, nothing going in is coming out, without the help of magnesium citrate. So I’m not able to eat much. Rapid weight loss has become a problem.
I also have slow colonic motliity (as shown by Sitz marker test done without stopping my bowel regimen at the time) and a tortuous colon. I am on everything: Miralax, Motegrity, Senna, magnesium. I do a weekly Miralax home cleanse (255 grams Miralax in 64 ounces Gatorade). I add 3 tablets of bisacodyl at bedtime for extra help. I do a 500 ml home soap suds enema at least 5 days a week; the "soap" acts like an irritant and the volume of the enema helps initiate peristalsis. I often do it for symptoms relief (lower abdominal pressure, bloating). I usually have to use a bit of manual massage on my abdomen to help things come out. I just had a consult with surgery regarding an ostomy. I am not quite ready for that, I want to exhaust ALL of my options. Next up is a repeat with Physical Therapy for pelvic floor training (I also have issues with my anal sphincter muscles/pelvic floor muscles coordinating properly). I had gone through this 2 years ago and perhaps didn't take it seriously enough. My GI doctor is okay with all of my home therapies, but I would check with yours before initiating anything new as everyone is different. Best wishes.
