Has anyone in this group undergone surgery for removal? Is it working?
I was recently diagnosed with stage 2 adenocarcinoma lung cancer in my upper left lung. Much to my surprise, the surgeon says he plans to take the whole upper left quadrant of my lungs! I thought they would only take out the 2 spots that were found. Does this sound normal? I know I will survive with missing a part of my lung, but what else should I expect? I was also told that follow up chemo is not likely, but may do so as a preventative.

Thank you for the luck. I am more hopeful today hearing from you. I did hear that Gabapentin is prescribed, too, in my Patient Guide from the thoracic surgeon.
I'm 69 and I hope to be in as good as shape as you are now 🤗 .When the South Texas weather cools by autumn, I do hope I will be outdoors walking regularly, and looking at the leaves change colors.
Thank you for the inspiration. May you get back to your tennis soon!
So glad to hear how active you have become. Amazing. I have a lobectomy this Wednesday and I keep telling myself that I will walk and play with my grand daughters and dogs again. Thank you for sharing.
Not me, surgery that is. I regularly set up Lung cancer info booths at events like the annual Cancer Survivor Day held every June. People offer up their experiences all the time. I've met men and women of various ages who tell me it's been 20, 25, even 40 years since they had a lobe removed.
@burdyblue, wishing you the best with your surgery and recovery. Let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it. 🙂
Completed lobectomy—good care, nurses, and meds night one. Uncomfortable somewhat but able to sleep. Relieved and doing my spirometer exercises. Surprised I can breathe okay, just wasn’t sure what it would feel like. Thank you for asking. Got through it with your support. Many thanks.
I had my upper left lobe removed in 2017. I had no further treatment. Unfortunately for me my cancer metastasized and a year later I was stage IV. I am currently on a TKI and have been relatively stable for the past 6 years. I wish you all the best and hope by removing your lobe you will be cancer free forever.
air leak. longer stay than I wished for, but grateful surgery went okay and pain is manageable with tube in.
I had an ULL removal in October 2023. Came home with my chest tube due to air leak after 5 days in the hospital. Kept it in another 5 days at home. I was Stage 1b going in to surgery and 3a coming out due to one lymph node. No chemo, but I did radiation to a ground glass nodule on my right lung. This was because after the lymph node, they decided to treat that like cancer even though it couldn’t be biopsied. Now I take TKI. Coming up on 1 year soon. I’m back to normal life activity after my pity party that lasted until 3 weeks ago. We don’t know what the future holds but we can own the present. Wishing you a speedy recovery. ❤️
Thanks. “Owning the present.” I like that. 🙂
I see you are in Texas. ❤️ I live in Florida but I’m from SE Texas where a lot of my family still lives. I miss the blue bonnets.
