What help is available for very slow motility?
I’ve been searching, for over two years, for help with chronic constipation and slow, to no motility. I’ve tried numerous, expensive, prescriptions, and Dr. said surgery is only option. (I had a Sitz Marker procedure to diagnose low motility) The only relief I get is with Magnesium Citrate. I have, most of my life, had problems with IBS-C but could always solve it with over the counter support. This Doctor is my second opinion. My first Gastroenterologist told me there is nothing that can be done-take Miralax
. I’ve had 2 CT scans with contrast which showed a redundant and torqued colon plus severe constipation. I would love some alternative ideas to increase motility, before having to have surgery.

Motility not mobility, right?
I am also plagued by constant low motility and chronic constipation. These issues are not affected by what I eat or anything else having to do with my diet. I am simply the king of flatulence. It is a common event after I eat a meal but will also come about in the middle of the day when I haven't eaten anything. As often as not, the flatus is fairly non-odorous; however once in awhile it is nuclear in intensity and whiffiness. I would love to know what is the best anti-flatulence preparation on the market and what you suggest I can do to help myself out of this stinky swamp!
Have you tried dried ginger root caps to help with motility? If you decide to try it you want a brand that is high in gingerols like Mountain rose Herbs (higher quality than Spring Valley) or Spring Valley brand (Walmart).

I know it helps with digestion in the stomach and small intestine but not sure about the large intestine. I take a cap after every meal to help with a slight nausea feeling. If you are diabetic or on blood thinners this supplement is not for you as it thins the blood and might interact with diabetic meds.
Hope this helps!
I will try, thank you
I do something similar with plain old ginger spice. I like McCormick's. I make a "milk tea," with some milk, ginger, cocoa powder, stevia drops and water. I then heat it up in the microwave. It helps with bloat and gas and that should help with constipation too (which I have). I also have a "severely redundant" colon and avoiding gas helps my digestion move along the twists and turns.
The only severe constipation (as opposed to regular, chronic constipation) I have had was due to a dose of Melatonin that was too large for me. I now take 150 mcg a night, which is a ridiculously low dose, but the right number for me.
I think if I ate too much beef or chicken, or anything really dense, or any grains, I would get constipated; so I eat sparingly of some of none of others. I eat loose foods (porridges, soups) and whatever cooked veggies I can tolerate. I drink a lot of warm liquids too -- that helps move things along.
I think you should get really creative with your diet if you haven't done so yet. Some of us just can't digest what is considered "food" by most.
I don't think those drugs would work for me: my gut is too weird and sensitive.
Other things to consider -- the right fiber and the right form of it and slipperly elm inner bark powder. I make a "first thing in the morning" tea from it. It supports the mucosa and helps things to slip along one's gut.
Thank you, any ideas are very welcome
researchmaven, is there a difference between slippery elm INNER bark and other slippery elms? Do you make your own tea or can you buy it in the teabags? If you do your own, would you share how to make it?
I have had constipation issues since my first pregnancy, at 19, I had severe hyperemisis gravidum , while carrying twins.
But I have had CIC for 17+ years, I eat as little solids as possible and take miralax by the gallons, with a side of Metamucil gummies. Thanx, ShelleyW
mikhailyza0403, I am very similar to you, motility issues. You speak of odorless flatulence... it seems much more like simple air, in me. 17+ yrs of CIC, but this air explosions are only 2+ yrs. It's different than the typical gas, for me. I mentioned this in a previous post, activated charcoal has been very effective, for me, with real gas, but not for this air. If you have not used charcoal before , check to be sure that it is ok for you.
If you are willing, would you describe what your motility and chronic 💩 feels like to you?
My motility, smooth muscles are needed for this, I am praying is related to my Hyperparathyroidism and elevated calcium levels. Calcium is much much more important than I ever imagined. My smooth muscles, for pooping, are almost non functional now. I am having parathyroid surgery as soon as I can get 2 new issues under control.
Thanx, ShelleyW
shellyW,
The inner bark of elm is the slippery part. If a product doesn't declare it is inner bark, then you may get the whole bark, inner and outer sections, and it will be less effective.
It is not a teabag, just a powder. Since I have a very sensitive gut, I use 1/2 teaspoon in about 12 oz hot water, first thing when I get up. If you Google it, I think most will use more. You need to experiment so you take the right amount. It is not unpleasant to drink.
I hope you have tried a "food choice" solution too, for your CIC. I didn't mention my additional reliance on the Monash University App's Low-FODMAP foods and portions. I wouldn't be successful without it. However, CIC is not IBS-C. I think I have both.
I have also had to learn to manage everyday stress. For me, the brain and gut "are one."
researchmaven,
Thanx for sharing.
I try to eat so little solid food due to CIC, I have to admit that makes for a crappy diet. I will get out my FODMAP info and review it again. Yes mind brain and gut brain are too related, don't you just hate that. ShelleyW
