Bad experience taking Ambien with my day meds for 4days sraight.

Posted by jaydavid1978 @jaydavid1978, Aug 18 12:17am

I have been taking Ambiem for 20 years and never had this mix up before. Are there any long term effect as my brain is still very muddy and am still having me.mory issues days later. Any remedey? Toom Ambien 10mg every morning than routinely at night. I got caught in a cycle which took about 4 days to clear out of my system. Used 5 extra pills in 4 days. I then woke up after a 30 sleep with a huge ambien "hangover",

Welcome @jaydavid1978, I don't have any experience taking Ambien but I don't think you are alone with your symptoms. I did find some information on long term use that you may want to discuss with your doctor.

"Ambien is not safe for long-term use and should only be prescribed for a maximum of 6 weeks, but ideally, less than that. But some people find they can’t sleep without Ambien or they develop a habit of using Ambien after using it for recreational reasons. These people should be aware of certain hazardous health and psychological effects that may occur with long-term use."

Why would you take 10 mg Ambien in morning , do you work midnight shift ?
Then you take it at night again ?
That’s too much .
They usually don’t prescribe more than 10 mg , and insurance only pays for 30 pills a month .
I take 10 mg before bed but lately I’ve been breaking on half 5 mg before bed and 5 mg at like midnight or 1 am when I wake up again .
You can get 12.5 mg ER ( extended release). I find they don’t work as well for me .
I have 10 years of 7 different chronic digestive disorders daily & sometimes into night .
I also have chronic fatigue syndrome lately and lots of nausea everyday .
Can barely eat much .
I’d be concerned about the amount you are taking .

It was accidental that I took it in the am. I was prescribed new day time meds for other reasons and mixed it up. I guess I filled my am and pm pill suspenser with Ambien in both. But yes, I normally just take 10mg nightly. I am more concerned of long term effects of taking a total of 8-9 in a matter of 4 days.

You’re going to run out before end of month if you take it nightly and took way more than usual . Does your insurance pay for more than 30 days at a time ? Mine doesn’t .
So I can’t take not one extra even if I wanted to , unless I skipped a night taking it .
I think you will be ok ✅ once it all goes through your system.

Ohh my what a mix up. I can see how it can be done. I feel you will be ok once it all gets out of your system. If any symptoms occur that make you worry or is unusual call your doctor as soon as you can. You may want to touch base with your doc just to let them know you accidentally mixed up your meds. This way he/she will know what is going on and may be able to tell you further if there needs to be concern.
I’ve only taken Ambien once in my life. My doc only gave me 30 pills and when they ran out he wouldn’t refill. I stretched those pills out for as long as I could. Only using them when I needed them. After they were gone that was it. This was about 12-15…years ago or so.
Hang in there.

If it was only for a few days and it doesnt keep happening, you’ll be ok! How are you feeling now? Ambien does indeed affect you in some unpleasant ways, but this goes away once you quit them. At least that’s my experience. I was on nearly 6 pills a night for a year which was a nightmare. I’m down to 1 now (10mg) and I’m fine.
