Hyperthyroidism: Share your experiences
Hi, I just found this forum and hope to get some shared experience. My wife (age 50) has low TSH 0.11 ulU/Ml, Free T4 at 1.49 ng/dL (range 0.89-1.76 ng/dL). Free T3 4.40 pg/Ml (range 2.3-4.20 pg/Ml) (elevated). She lost 10 lbs and has trouble sleeping which is why her PCP ordered such tests. Her PCP wants her to see an endocrinologist. we are in process of setting this up.
But I wonder if anyone has had similar issue and can share your experience on seeing doctor and treatments (what works and what doesn't). Even we are going to rely on the doctor, we want to research as much as we can before seeing doctor with questions ready. thank you so much.

I lost 25 lbs in 30 days and almost had a her attack before diagnosed with hyperthyroidism- after 3 months med recovered but after 2 yrs went in hypothyroidism/mom had this. Numbers still good but gained weight-
Years ago I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and my endo Dr wanted me to have radiation treatments to destroy my thyroid and then go on levothyroxine. Instead I chose to take methimazole. After a few years, my thyroid levels became normal for a while but then transitioned to hypothyroidism. So I then started on Synthroid to achieve normal levels.
I had Graves Disease. It was 40 years ago. The only treatments were thyroidectimy or radiation to kill the thyroid. After that I took Levothyroxin and all is well.
I had Graves’ disease fifty years ago and was treated with Propylthiouricil. I was on a declining dose for a year. I had 40 years with no issues but I am now on meds for hypothyroidism.
The other choices were radiation or thyroid removal…neither one appealed to me!
With hyperthyroidism, I lost weight, my hands shook if I held them out, heart rate nearly 100, no periods because I was so underweight.
I am a Type 2 diabetic for the last 30 years. The past year and half I have energy, feel weak, depression and with insomnia. I am upset because it's not going away, medicine not helping. I need help?
Correction I have no energy, exercise not helping.
I have hyperthyroid. Do any of you all have a fib also? My Dr says my afib is because of the hyperthyroid. Thanks
Yes, I have afib and hyperthyroidism.
Hello @cathie2024 and @irco, Welcome to Connect. I'm glad to see that you have already connected with each other. If you feel comfortable, can you share a little more about any treatments you have found helpful?
Hi John,
I just found out from my primary care doctor last Tuesday that I have hyperthyroidism and I was given a referral. I have to wait until 08/29 to see the specialist. I have been feeling terrible and surprised I have to wait so long to be seen for this. I am hoping when I go I will be given something to help ease my symptoms such as heart palpitations, anxiety, etc. I will post what transpires.
