Fibromyalgia help/questios

Posted by clararose @clararose, Aug 16 10:37am

I have never written about me before, or asked a question. Here goes, I feel alone with this issue, I know anyone who has it or really knows what it is like. Overwhelmed with exhaustion, body aches like a bad flu, brain fog, I suffer from severe migraines. Leg weakness/dizziness (this could be due to something else?). I am looking for some advice and suggestions please.

Hi
I have lived with fibro since I was 30 I am 66.
Finding your baseline for fatigue is important. Dont push yourself , rest when you need to . Start small . Even just doing household chores needs to be spreadout. Along with quality sleep and nutrition. An endocrinologist can help. Supplements are important. I see a naturopathic dr for these. They are better versed. It's not one size fits all. Everyone's body is different. I wish you well and hope you have a physician who can treat you.

Thank you so much for your support. I do find it difficult to sleep at times, I have recently tried melatonin with some success. I agree that I have to pace myself, I do find myself getting impatient with that - I want to get things done 😉
not waiting there for me.
I think I started with my fibromyalgia around age 36, shortly after we were in a car accident. We were hit by a drunk driver & my back was broken in two places. About a year or so afterwards - it started. I have been truly
suffering from this for many years now myself. As if the pain wasn’t bad enough, the increasing muscle weakness and exhaustion are wearing me down. I take a very good multi-vitamin daily and try to rest when I can.
I have tried to keep a good attitude, except that recently my flare ups are more frequent and seem to last longer. I am a little bit discouraged about that. Keeping warm is a given also!

Hi
My experience multivitamins are not recommended. Magnesium glycinate 1 hr before bed. I also take a b complex by natural factors biocoenzymated Active B complex it's the easiest and fastest absorbed. I take CBD/CBN oil at bedtime for sleep. It's legal in canada I get it thru a physician. Have you tried Lyrica or cymbalta. I was on cymbalta for 2 yrs after knee surgery to settle pain from fibro it was brutal. Tough drug to get off but helped immensely. Lyrica I tried but too strong for me. Also a muscle relaxer cyclobenzaprine 5mg at bedtime helps alot to relax muscles aids in sleep, helps depression. Was on for 10yrs. They don't recommend it long term anymore. There are good stretching videos on you tube for fibromyalgia. I hope you have a good physician. A naturopathic dr is also good to add. I also was in a car accident severe neck sprained. And whiplash.

You mentioned that Cymbalta helped a lot, but it sounds like you stopped taking it. Was there a reason you quit this drug. I haven't tried any meds for my fibro. I'm trying supplements recommended by my functional med dr but they don't seem to help much. Thanks.

Hello Sue, We’re you told to avoid multivitamins? I will try that. I am currently taking Ketorolac 20mg - up to two times daily, plus a heating blanket, when I am bedridden and the pain is unbearable. If it becomes too much - I have my husband take me to my doctor for a 60mg injection of Toradol. It does help sometimes. If I wait too long, it’s not as effective. I feel like I have the worst case of the flu &
some swelling in my hands during a bad flare, also back pains. There should be more attention paid to patients with this disease. It is debilitating & life-altering. If it is so apparent to us physically on the outside, what does this illness do to us on the inside? Has anyone ever measured that? Our organs certainly have been somehow affected by each of these flares we
truly suffer through. I wish there was a better pain management system
for sufferers - we need to be able to get on with our lives and live. I’m so happy to be neat my grandchildren and my suffering is so upsetting to me. 🥺. Thanks for sharing and listening.

Dear Ripley, I tried Cymbalta and it didn’t help me at all. It also gave me some side-effects, so I stopped after about 6 weeks. I do have some help with Ketorolac 20mg.
also when I start to become overwhelmed with the pain and hand swelling, I see my Dr. for a 60mg. injection of Toradol. Let’s be honest, when the pain is so severe that you are bedridden - you need to get some medical treatment. My doctor is to be commended for working with me. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING can stop the excruciating amount of pain that I am in (or reduce the swelling)….but
it’s a kick-start to getting a
handle on this for when I get home. I then rest and I take care to stay warm and hydrated. Sports drinks with electrolytes are best…. I am in a bad flare now. Got an injection yesterday. Still feeling a lot of pain and pressure, however it will ebb off here sooner with the meds and rest. My best to everyone.

Hi
Prior to cymbalta I was on cyclobenzaprine it's a muscle relaxer also helps with pain. After knee surgery my pain was intolerable and cymbalta was used to control it. It's a fibro med. I only needed it to recover from surgery. Then I went back on cyclobenzaorine As you know, fibro comes and goes I have had it since the age of.
Mid twenties so. Mine is Controlled by Supplementation and c b d/cbn oil and advil plus. Since going thru radiation therapy i have severe fatigue and sleep issues. Waiting on my new gp to decide what to try.

Sorry you are struggling so bad. I never had fibro that leveling. My endocrinologist told ne not to take multivitamins. It's better to take single supplements that help. I go to a naturopathic dr fir supplements as they can yest to see what your body requires

Thank you so much! I wonder if taking the multivitamin is exacerbating things. I am so happy to hear from you and get another point of you, as I said before, I don’t know anyone who has this illness. No one else to “grumble” to, I guess 🥴!! Thank you for your kindness.

Thank you for sharing, I hope that your new GP has a good understanding of fibro and chronic pain.
Dealing with pain makes you so tired and it saps all of your energy. I hope that you will be feeling much better very soon. I am a proponent of sports drinks with the electrolytes in them. Staying hydrated is so important. Stay well.
