I noticed bleeding whilst defecating. I felt no pain but I felt strain

After defecating yesterday at night, I noticed some bleeding whilst defecating. I did not feel any pain but I felt felt some strain around the anus and also I have been straining for the past few days whilst defecating as well. I would like to hear some proper thoughts about this.

Hi @rave777, I'm a patient like yourself with no medical experience. Here's some information on the topic but I think this is something you might want to check out with your doctor.

It has only happened this time. However, I do remember seeing reddish brown - ish colored stools a few days ago, accompanied by considerable straining. I will be seeing a gastroenterologist soon, hopefullly.

My son had a bright red streak in stool that bled . It was a fissure. I was told a fissure or hemorrhoids would be brigth red and anything further up the GI system would be dark/black. Not sure if I have that right entirely but ask your GI doc.

Update: I do not have any bleeding whilst defecating anymore however I do notice some strain whilst defecating.
It was probably an issue associated with straining.

8/13/24 Thank y’all for your post, comments and great article about when blood is excreted from rectum.
Two days ago this happened to me and I am happy to report the episodes have decreased dramatically. I have had only liquids and very soft “white” foods (yogurt, milk, soda crackers, mashed potato, mashed banana) since, along with at least 60 fl oz water plus herbal tea.
I’m not in the clear yet, but stomach much less achy and never had fever.
I hope this helps someone out there.
I will probably have colonoscopy in near future.
