Brain Zap and Tremors from Lexapro and Burspone.

Posted by pamelaz @pamelaz, Aug 6 3:48pm

Has anyone experienced brain zap and tremors from Lexapro and Burspone? I make an appointment with my psychiatrist about my problems and she said it can’t be her prescription medicine. I tried to tell her I’m having problems and she said it’s because I was on clonazepam for so long and to get with my neurologist. I had seen my neurologist in July because of stopping the clonazepam in May and not being weaned off. The shaking was slight in June but now is full blown. Has anyone had this type of problem with medicines? I, also, take Keppra for seizures, Cholesterol Medicine, an Aspirin daily. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please Google Lexapro + Buspirone for the side effects.

Four or five years ago when I began taking Prozac which is also a SSRI like Lexapro, I began having tremors about a month after being on the medication. It was extremely frightening and the doctor that put me on Prozac didn’t connect the dots that the Prozac was causing it. I happened to call in to the practice one weekend because I was so scared and thankfully got ahold of a doctor who told me it was probably the Prozac and to stop taking it. Two or three days later the tremors were gone. I am extremely sensitive to antidepressant side effects and have tried many of them over the years but was unable to tolerate the side effects. I am 70 years old and although I have always been sensitive to medicines, it’s getting worse as I get older.

I told my Psychiatrist. She said it can’t be the medicines to get with my neurologist. My neurologist said that they can cause shaking and tremors. I called the Psychiatrist this morning and she has not return my call.

I included a link showing this as a possible side effect. Mine were only in my legs and making me feel unsteady walking. It is disheartening and amazes me how often I find doctors who are not aware or refuse to believe the side effects some drugs cause. The doctor who initially prescribed the Prozac wanted to INCREASE the dosage when I complained about the tremors. Thank God I reached a different doctor when I called the clinic that weekend. I switched doctors and began seeing the one who was aware of that side effect. I thanked him and told him he probably saved my life.

My Psychiatrist finally called me. I told her what my neurologist
Said about Burspone and tremors. She still said it can’t be but gave me instructions on how to wean off. I’m praying the tremors stop. Will keep updates.

What dosage were you on? I’m taking 10 mg. Lexapro at night, and 5 Buspar at night and 10 in the morning, but want to taper off Buspar. Or at least lower the dosage. Lexapro worked perfectly a few years ago, on its own for two years. this time I needed something extra.

I’m on 10 mgs in the morning and 10 mgs at night plus 20 mgs of Lexapro, 500 mgs of Keppra, cholesterol medicine and high blood pressure medicine.

Being as you are concerned, you may want to taper off by a quarter at first rather than half. I am taking cholesterol medications, high blood pressure medication and Lorazepam .25 mg, once in a while as needed. Did you start out 10 mg Lexapro and up it to 20? As mentioned, Lexapro at 10 worked for me (actually twice), but not as well this time. One reason Buspirone was added. But, I’m still not myself. Am thinking I may have to accept this way.
