Hi Susan, Congratulations!! Day 0! Now you can start counting up post transplant!! 100 days feels like so far away at this point but the time will go quickly.

Just to give you a heads up…generally, the next two to three weeks after transplant can be a little challenging. The preconditioning chemo starts making its side effects known. So don’t be surprised if your appetite starts waning along with your energy. You may develop some nausea as well. Fatigue is not uncommon so plan on lots of napping.

Right now your new stem cells are meandering around your blood stream. Within the first few days the re-infused stem cells migrate to the bone marrow and set up house keeping! There are special little openings where the cells enter the bone…they just seem to know where to go! It takes about 12 to 15 days following infusion for stem cells to begin to produce new blood cells. Once that happens and your neutrophil count starts increasing recovery starts moving along steadily.
I think any of us who have gone through transplant will tell you at this point, if you feel hungry or feel that you need to hydrate more…eat and drink!! ☺️ Side note: I found it was easier to get down my required liquid intake if I drank room temperature water.

Keep us posted and congrats again on Day 0 being a success. Air hug!

Hi Susan, I can’t let another day go by without checking in to see how you’re doing! I believe you’re at Day +15? Phew, I think the most challenging two weeks are behind you. How are you feeling?
