Can you take tymlos and prolia
Anyone on tymlos and prolia or switched to tymlos after prolia? I still have 3 months of prolia in me and 3 weeks ago started tymlos. New dr new everything and I don't know whether to trust her or not. I had 6 compression Fractures when I was off prolia for 3 months due to insurance. Will this happen again or will tymlos be a replacement. I also read tymlos doesn't work well after prolia??? She also says no need for blood test that I read lots of people have. No need for follow up dexa. How do I know is working?

Have you had any other fractures? Have you had any tests to show if tymlos is working?
How are you doing on the tymlos? Have you had any more fractures? Have you had any scans to see if tymlos is working>
I have a Dexa scheduled for October. In terms of fractures no further problems. However, as I sit here watching tv I am having pain in my foot and planning a trip to urgent care in the morning to determine if I have a fracture. Will let you know.
Hopeful librarian, have been trying to find you again!!. Remember we both started treatment at the same You found a good doctor. I didn'/t. Have wasted a lot of time & grateful I haven't fractured since a;; this began! Wantd to go on Tymlos but ut would have taken more time & it has been almost a YEAR since my bad test back in October! Amazing that I haven't fractured in that period
JUST startedd Prolia & have done the research & yes, going on Tymlos after Prolia is not effective. Not sure what I will do when the time comes but hope a new doctor can come up with some ideas.
Glad you have done so well!!!!!
@guinivere a friend of mine who is 83, is doing Prolia for the rest of her life. Maybe the doctor who prescribed it for you can let you know it that is your best option, or give you a long term plan.
I am so sorry you have had trouble finding a specialist and have had to go through a year of anxiety about fracturing. I hope the Prolia gives you time to find a good endocrinologist!
Thank you for the information. I was on the Prolia for more than 4 years. Apparently the longer you are on it the quicker the rebound happens. I now have found a specialist but he is saying the same thing as the other one just to stay on the tymlos. I overlapped it with the Prolia but the Prolia ran out in May. So I have been off of it for 3 months. Still on the timelas has been 7 months on it. I am currently experiencing back pain after I was just starting to feel better. I'm extremely scared that I am starting to have the rebound again. I have talked to another doctor in the specialist office and they have ordered CTX blood test and an x-ray. I have to wait a week for the X-ray to make sure if it is the fracture it would show up. I am literally so upset I feel like I can't trust anyone
@burrells5 and @guinevere I just rewatched the video on YouTube by Dr. Ben Leder on "Combining and Sequencing Approaches to Osteoporosis." He talks about combining Forteo and Prolia. The two protocols discussed were Forteo months 0-9 and Prolia months 3-15 so both drugs for months 3-9; and the same with a high dose of Forteo. ( Tymlos is not discussed but could be substituted.) This latter combo was very effective! It takes only 12-15 months, for instance, to achieve a 15% increase in spine density. The anabolics cannot achieve this at all in 2 years; bisphosphonates would take 9-10 years (not recommended past 5) and Prolia alone would take 8 years. (I did get a 20% gain with Tymlos alone, in spine, so that is unusual apparently!) Note he does not discuss what to do after Prolia in that section of the video...
@burrelis5 what you have been doing is different than that but you did have intersection of the two drugs. Videos and books ("McCormick's Great Bones") as well as my doctors have said Tymlos is not a good medication to stop rebound and a bisphosphonate would be needed, probably Reclast. Or maybe your doctor will suggest going back on Prolia-? I am glad you are getting help with this situation and please let us know so we can all continue to learn. I hope the x-ray goes well.
@guinevere Dr. Leder is quite positive about the potency of Prolia. He says, as do others, that the problem is when you stop. He gives a strong warning about fracture risk when stopping without follow-up. People are staying on it for 8 years, even longer. I hope Prolia helps you! Since you have only done one shot maybe you could look into adding Tymlos though that would be different from the protocol Leder discussed. Protocols may have changed since he recorded that!
I have been on prolia for over 4 years so multiple doses. The problem is I had so many fractures at once. They gave me the tymlos to hopefully quickly build bone. I have watched multiple videos and I have read Dr Keith McCormick. He states that he will not give medical advice. Which I respect but I know that I can't do this with the all natural approach. Part of my problem is I tried that for many years and I continue to get worse. Right now I'm going to see what my test results are and hopefully this doctor will get a plan together. I appreciate the information I will look at everything and maybe can ask questions with the doctor
@burrells5 Keith McCormick gives advice on osteoporosis treatment by phone or in person for a fee. $350 I think for a consultation and $85 thereafter.
Just wanted to add that I found another video by Dr. Ben Leder. So on YouTube he has
"Combining and Sequencing Approaches to Osteoporosis" and a more recent "Strategies for Bone Medications with Dr. Ben Leder" (OsteoBoston). I keep watching the first one because I forget details and this morning I am watching the second one.
