That sounds like a very large daily dose of ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Ibuprofen and all NSAIDs are hard on the kidneys, and acetaminophen is hard on the liver.

I was taking diclofenac every day - first time was for pre and post op pain from hip and subsequent replacement. I stayed on diclofenac as my left shoulder was full of osteophytes, very painful, and I had to wait 3 months for surgery. So I had back-to-back joint replacements.

When I had my pre-surgery physical and blood work for my shoulder, my creatinine levels were 1500 when the top of the healthy range is 1200. This happens when the kidneys have to work extra hard to clear NSAIDs. The NP suggested I stop taking the med. I dropped down to one pill every two or three days and used a lot of ice! I used diclofenac for about a week after surgery, and then Tylenol as needed (not very often). By surgery, my creatinine number had dropped from 1500 to 1000, and now it's even lower than that.

Anyway, if you haven't, please ask your surgeon or PA about the doses you're taking.

Good news? You'll feel great after the THR and recovery is usually short!

I ended up in the emergency room with acetaminophen toxicity from taking two Excedrin migraine tablets in a 24 hour period over a two week period. The admitting doctor had the sense to do a toxicity blood work which turned up this dangerous condition. It took three days of a constant IV drip to bring my liver levels to normal. I had not even come close to the daily limit of acetaminophen but yet had serious risk to my liver. Please be careful with these dosages. I know pain is difficult but try to make peace with it until your hip surgery. I do wish you the best as having two hip replacements, the relief was exquisite.
