Is this true?

I was starting to do a lot better but then I read that it can take 18 months to get my testosterone back to my pre-ADT level (~600) when my six month Lupron shot wears off ? I also read that impotence from radiation kicks in at 18-24 months.

Does this mean I will NEVER get my sexuality back again, i.e. impotence will kick in just as my testosterone is finally recovering enough? I honestly don't think I can go on, or even WANT to go on, if this is the case. I used to have sex at least twice a week and haven't even been able to masturbate for four months now. What's the point of life with no intimacy?

I wasn't told ANY of this when I reluctantly started treatment and just found this out from doing online research. I finally felt I was making progress but now feel once again like my soul is crushed. I don't see any quality of life ahead of me at all.

Thanks for your kind words.

The Trimix works almost too good! From my experience I would start at a lower dose and go up incrementally until you achieve the result you want. Be careful not to take any Cialis/Viagra/Levitra within around 48 hours before the use of the Trimix. The only danger of the drug is priapism (prolonged erection lasting 4 hours or more requiring medical intervention). From everything I know this isn't a big concern as long as you don't mix the oral ED agents or start with a super high dose. Like most men I was apprehensive about the injection part but with the very small needle (27 g) it feels like a tiny prick (sorry for the pun!) with the whole thing lasting < 5 seconds. I'm sure your Urologist will go over all of this in detail.

Good luck and God Bless you and your wife!

Thanks for the helpful information, encouraging words and the pun too. I find that having a sense of humor is helpful as I face these challenges.

My libido is typically poor due to ADT but occasionally I feel “ sparky” and I hope to follow the Nike mantra and “Just do it!”.

"It" stopped working way before my cancer arrived. But I can relate to other's about urges. When you want,, you want. 48 years, we had a good run. My funny is tell my wife to get that look out of her eye because I am on meds. I guess it's one less thing I can blame on the cancer. It's quite the ride we are all on,, And, as someone's famous wife replied,, it's not the Titanic.. best to all.

My recent appt with my doctor , I asked when I would regain my libido. He said after you go off the ADT meds it takes about as long as your were on them so in my case it will take about 4 -6 months after I quit taking the drugs. Which will be mid Sept. I just finished my 44 fractions of radiation on Thursday.

My sexual interest - libido- is completely gone. And there was a time when I was really grieving the loss of that part of me. I guess I’ve either got used to it or am in some kind of low grade depression.
I keep myself busy with other interests and put my time into friendships and not dating.

You should refer to the ProtecT trail . This trial is the largest study of its kind .
Part of the study found : " That the negative impact of radiotherapy and surgery on urinary and sexual function persist much longer than previously thought -- , for up to 12 years ."

Orgovyx pills are supposed to let your testosterone return more quickly after stopping than ADT injectables like Firmagon or Lupron (55% of people in one study had recovered testosterone within 90 days), but there's probably a lot of person variation around how long it takes your libido to "wake up" after that. Obviously, if you've had radiation or a prostatectomy, your libido might not ever fully recover to its former level.

Scott,
my comments disappeared. I'll try again and make it shorter.

Releationships end for a variety of reasons, gay or straight. The joy of sex is important to many releationships, but not all. You had found a partner that sex was not important to, you can find another.

You are taking hormones that have side effects, depression is one of the side effects. Please try to remember that when self pity comes into your thinking. It's ok to visit the house of self pity, just don't move in.

Please find a professional therapist to talk to. Find out 'why' sex is so important to you because sex is not an essential part of life like food, water and shelter is.

Not trying to sound flippant but Attitude is Everything. A therapist can help with that.

Just because your dingy does not want to sail does not change the kind of person you are. You help others and and can continue to help others and make a difference in the world, in th words of Jim Valvano, don't give up, don't ever give up.

My doctor said he's fine with letting me switch to Orgovyx so we'll see when my current Lupron shot wears off. The most frustrating thing for me is that I can still get good erections but they don't last very long AND I can't reach orgasm no matter how hard I try. I did have radiation so maybe the nerves for erection and orgasm are permanently fried?

Very strange. The moderators have been in touch with me when they needed to change a very minor thing in one of my posts (moving it to a different thread), so I'm certain they wouldn't be going around deleting people's posts without getting in touch with them first.
