What is the prognosis of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)?
Can anyone tell me what I am up against if it turns out that I have intermediate AMD. I am 56 and healthy. Does it progress the same as it does in the elderly? Can it remain stable for decades? Are we close to a cure? Do the vitamins and fresh fruit and leafy green vegetable diet work to slow or stop it? I am so upset and scared over this. Do the eye injections work or do they stop after a few years? ... will I be centrally blind by the time I am 65?
Will there be a cure before it is too late for me and many others?
I am so upset

You probably won't ever lose vision. If you do, the injections will most likely bring it back. My doc assured me I will always be able to drive. Look out people!😉😊
My Dad has been getting shots in his eyes for 17 years and is still driving Praise God 🙏
OMGosh! That is great news. I'm so happy for your dad. How old was he at his diagnosis?
Thank you for this information.
I sure feel like I've died inside. I don't want to feel like this... I'm crying while writing this. 🙂
I am so happy for you! And that's funny! Vroom, vroom, beep, beep.
Thank you so much for your positive response. I so want to live a happy and optimistic life. You have given me hope.
How old were you when you were diagnosed and at which stage?
🙂
I was diagnosed in my late 50s but probably had it for a few years before that. I'm 65 now. My right eye went wet last year. Injections, which aren't as bad as they sound, have preserved my vision.
How often are getting the injections?
Were you intermediate when first diagnosed? I went from them telling me for two visit in two years from having drusen and we'll watch it and because I hadn't been in for two years they don't know when it started. Well, that would have been covid time when no one was getting appointments, fast forward two years and I have dry AMD in both eyes. They never told me I had early AMD or AMD at all.. WTH. This means I would have been 52 or 53. Why so young especially for someone healthy. Then Im told it's rare to be diagnosed before 55.
I'm glad you're getting the right treatment now. N yes, I thought the injections went into the pupils but they go into the white part.
Also, when was I actually diagnosed? Two years ago when they saw the drusen, or this past June when they said it had worsened and I read in my chart dry AMD both eyes? I hate they left me with so many questions because I had no idea what was going on.
@prayingtolucy, he was 63. I know that's older, but I feel they've come a Long Way. I'm certain there is a way to prolong your vision with injections and/or medications. Stay positive and keep advocating for yourself.
Do you know which stage your dad was in when diagnosed? And how long before he started eye injections?
I am praying for the stem therapy to be successful and useful before it's too late for me and others like me. I read it is maybe 10-15 years away.
Thank you for your help.
