A tear might have ocurred and there is no going back from that. When I casually called my opthalmologist they had me come in immediately. They have since given me the warning signs to look for and I have to be checked every few weeks at first and now every 4-5 months. Had I ignored it, a tear might have ocurred. 2 weeks ago my other eye has also started to act up and is also being checked periodically as mentioned. That is the reason that I suggested going to see a specialist because they can tell if there is something that needs to be done. I have not needed surgery, only monitoring.
