Sensitive guts

Posted by helen1000 @helen1000, Jul 9 7:09am

Does anyone have a sensitive gut like me? Sometimes I eat random stuff and have a diarrhea. I am intolerant to wheat and lactose so I am sure if I eat anything containing these two ingredients, I will have bloating or gas or have to go to bathroom. But sometimes after I eat vegetable juice, I still feel bloating or have diarrhea. So I am curious anyone has similar situation and how to deal with it.

Thanks for any input.

Interesting, helen1000 -- I can't digest rice well, so I avoid it. I have to jump through a lot of food hoops, that took awhile to figure out, but the reward -- a calm, relatively happy digestive system -- is worth it to me. Thanks for the feedback!

I have a condition called CVID. Common Variable Immunodepression or Boy in the Bubble disease. Not as bad, but I don't make antibodies to viruses or bacteria so I give myself blood plasma of IgG gammaglobulin of other peoples antibodies. So the latest gastro news for people like me is not to take probiotics. I also have low IgA which messes with your gut. I happen to be taking a very small amount of Lyrica for another condition and it seems to be slowing down things so might be a blessing. I also stopped drinking the protein drink I had been drinking every morning with lots of added "stuff" in it and switched to Truvani protein powder which is really clean and tastes good and that doesn't give me a bloated feeling after drinking. This has been a thirty year fight.

I have been battling Diarrhea for 10 years. Had Pulmonary Embolism 2014, and after that had to have gallbladder removed. I do know of some foods not to eat but its a struggle every day. I cannot plan anything as never know how stomach going to be. My Gastro did on last visit give me a powder to start which he says will bulk up stool. Starting that today. I wish you the best.

It is said in Chinese herbal medicine if your gut health is not good, your lung health is not good.
Did you do genetic test or immune test? or Enzyme deficiency test? My pulm doctor gave me all the tests. Also start from a few variety of food like potato, Chinese cabbage, and chicken soup with only salt? Then gradually increase? These food are very mild and easy to digest. It takes years to recover and rebuild gut health. Some probiotics or enzyme may help too? I also add shitake mushroom which is said to improve immune system.

Have you tried 24 hour yogurt? I make it with aseptic packaged soy milk, I am lactose and casein sensitive (casein is a milk protein that the Lactaid supplement does not help you digest).
It is so easy to make the 24 hr yogurt if you use aspetic packaged plant based milk, you just sprinkle the probiotic into the carton opening and shake, then add it to sterilized jars in your Instant Pot or incubator and let it ferment. The plant based milk you choose cannot have any additives in it, there are a lot of recipes on the internet if you are interested.
I have loose stool from a shortened small intestine (complicated appendix sx) and the yogurt really helps firm things up. You can research what gut bacteria would be beneficial to your issues and use them in the soymilk. I did not purchase any special starter, just used the probiotic capsules I had on hand.
Here is a link to more information on it: https://healthygut.com/scd-legal-yogurt-is-the-difference-maker-dont-eat-it-at-your-own-risk/
Your sensitivity to vegetable juice makes me think you might have a FODMAP issue. FODMAPS are fermentable carbs, fructose is one of the biggies as it is in a lot of fruits and vegetables. A Dietician told me that most Adults have fructose issues as they age. Look up Monash University, they developed a FODMAP program and have a great app that helps you figure out portion sizes and what carbs are contained within a specific food.
Best of luck on your journey!!

I will definitely follow your advice by checking FODMAP.

I found it worth the effort to do an elimination diet using the FODMAP program. I do not know of any easy blood tests to determine all digestion issues.

I did food allergy test 15 years ago. It did not show lactose intolerance.

I think I am getting older so my intestine is getting old too. 🙂

I text you a private message please check it

There are tests to determine digestion issues. Not only blood work but a breath test, tests for fungal infections, tests for bacterial infections, tests for yeast infections. You just need to find a doctor that knows how to test for digestive issues and find the cause of the issues and not just treat the symptoms.
