How many times a day do you do saline neb?

Recommended to do it twice a day...possibly more if need to when unwell.

I also do twice a day as recommended. I have mild bronchiectasis and when I skip it, I notice a difference and feel much better doing two a day, morning and evening.

Can I asked you and others to defined what bronchiectasis is and how it was diagnozed? I have had many episodes of bronchitis and get it any time I have sinus infection, cold, virus and is serious with antibiotics needed.

My bronchia area can get irritated from pollution, allergies, etc. and will start coughing. I can hear a wheezing sound in bronchial area when I exhale. Coughing it up helps remove that but the coughing irritates the bronchial area and throat so can cause me to cough more.

Hi there,

Yes. I had a chronic cough that wasn't very productive for several months so I originally went to my primary care physician who ordered an x-ray. That showed some tree and bud nodules so she ordered a CT scan and referred me to a pulmonologist. The CT scan allows the pulmonologist to see things much more clearly and in much more detail. I had never heard of Bronchiectasis when I was diagnosed.

Here are a few links that help explain and show images of what it looks like (it can look very different depending on the severity and type of Bronchiectasis):

What is Bronchiectasis: https://www.lung.org/lung-health-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/bronchiectasis
Bronchiectasis Imaging: https://bronchiectasis.com.au/bronchiectasis/diagnosis-2/radiology

I think speaking with your doctor to discuss what they'd advise given your symptoms would be a great idea especially if you do have a chronic cough and reoccurring chest infections.

Hope this helps!
Kate

Thanks for information. I will go on the link you provided.

This morning woke up with coughing up mucus from bronchial area. If exhale all the way can hear a wheezing sound in my bronchial area. Have no explanation for the flare up. But the more I cough the more the bronchial ares gets irritated.

Tried using Atrovent as seems to work better than Aberutrol. It took a while but improved the wheezing and thus the coughing up or mucus.

Have appointment with ENT (ear nose throat) this week and next week PCP. Got to do something as can't keep having my bronchial area taking such a beating.

Had pulmonary tests months ago and pulmonolgist did not find asthma or the cause. But no follow up by him. My ENT and PCP though are still trying to find cauese and treatments.

I nebulize with Levalbuterol and then Saline solution twice a day

I nebulize daily. After my Mayo visit, I was still thought to have MAC and they told me 2x daily followed by Aerobika and huff coughing, then postural drainage. The postural drainage gave me reflux. After cultures finally came back negative and I wasn’t producing sputum, the Mayo doc OK’d me doing the routine once daily. At that time, I was using sinus meds in a head hanging position and did postural drainage while head down. Once my frontal sinus cleared, I stopped the postural drainage part and the reflux stopped.

Can I asked which Mayo you go to?

I go to Mayo Jacksonville and have been suffering with sinuistis, nasal drainage, infections, bronchitis for decades.

Recently had the full pulmanary tests to rule out asthma. They could not find a cause or duplicate the symptoms. I am working with my PCP to continue to investigate and find a solution.

Can you advise what you mean by postural drainage? I have been doing a steriod and saline rinse now for about a year. I do it twice a day. It is using the squeeze bottle hang my head over sink and then slowly squeeze bottle in one nostril as it comes out the other and then reverse.

Sound like whatevery you did helped so very interested.

The prescription says three times a day, but my pulmonologist says twice a day is fine.

Hi, @jc76,
When you say
"Recently had the full pulmonary tests to rule out asthma.'' What tests were involved?

Thanks!
