Prednisone Tapering or Something Else Going on
I have had the hardest time tapering below 1-1/2 mg. Methylprednisolone. When I saw the Rheumatologist, he said the ache and pain I am feeling could be some other underlining cause and he prescribed an MRI which I took …. Here are my findings:
“aspherical configuration of the femoral head neck junction which can
predispose to cam-type impingement.
tear of the anterior superior labrum.
There is mild tendinopathy and strain of the distal iliopsoas insertion into the lesser trochanter minimal adjacent reactive edema
There is increased signal seen at the hamstring origin suggestive of mucoid degeneration
Impression:
1.Aspherical configuration the femoral neck junction with tearing of the anterior superior labrum.
2.Tendinopathy and strain of the distal iliopsoas tendon at its distal insertion but no discrete tear.
3.Mucoid degeneration of the hamstring origin “
If you are experiencing difficulty with tapering, it might be worth your while to get an MRI. But do request an open one. When I went, it was a closed MRI machine … very confining (like a coffin) and very loud and noisy. Was a wreck afterward. Definitely if you are at all claustrophobic, do get an open MRI.

Will be interesting to have the orthopedics appointment and opinion. Were there any concerns
plain x rays.
I was concerned with groin pain on prednisone
that I had avascular necrosis.
It was adductor tendinitis and tear.
Bloodwork was fine . X-ray showed osteoporosis which is being treated. After you got your result, how are you being treated for the tendinitis and tear? NSAIDs?
When trying to diagnose PMR I was seeing an orthopedic Dr. My shoulders were particularly sore but my legs and hands were not far behind. He ordered an MRI of my shoulders. I had almost the exact same results. First one is a slap tear. Which according to him anyone over 70 will probably have. Then tendonitis and bursitis. Just swelling in the tendon attachments and inflammation in the joints. Probably a little arthritis. So he sent me off and said not that bad. I just needed to fix the inflammation and recommended a rheumatologist. I have been off steroids for 2 years now. He apparently was right. I still lift weights every day and exercise. No pain now that the inflammation is gone. But I do agree . I think we all have some underlying conditions that become more pronounced with PMR and age.
I am on 5 mg pred til I see rheumatology next week. Supposed to get crp/esr tomorrow. I have been dealing with Achilles tendonitis since March. It's only somewhat better. Two weeks ago I missed seeing a step down, fell forward on a concrete sdewalk. Got some nasty cuts and bruises, badly sprained finger but nothing broken. Knee X-Ray revealed cppd. Previous hand xrays revealed cppd. July 1st crp was 7.4. Inflammation seems to be here, there and everywhere. Pmr, cppd, oa, tendonitis. Wonder if my crp can get back to normal. I have something 'elses' going on....
