Timing of meds: don't do what I did!

Posted by pdxmac @pdxmac, Jul 29 11:01am

I've been more or less successfully tapering with the morning pred dose, supplemented with Meloxicam with dinner as prescribed by my rheumy, but I had no idea how important the timing of those meds are until this week. There were a couple of social and work engagements that interfered with the timing of dinner and breakfast, so I inadvertently ended up with a "famine" of drugs for 18 hours! I didn't miss the food but did I pay the price for not helping my body with its expected anti-inflammatory help . The repercussions went on for days.
My goodness, these bodies of ours are finely tuned instruments; in the future I'll put off anything that gets in the way of that schedule for drugs.
Hope this helps avoid my big mistake.

To pdxmac, So true! But it can happen to anyone, especially with semi-unplanned social things! It’s good you found this out early on. I would be in hell if I missed a dose of any of my meds! 😂 just make sure you have your medications with you next time something comes up- that’s what I do !
Be good and take all your meds—best wishes on your medical journey!

I guess I've been very lucky over the past 2 1/2 weeks, navigating Pred doses (and a couple other unrelated to PMR prescribed meds and supplements), over the 6 and 7 hour Europe time difference versus home in the EDT. The European trip, pre-paid, predated the onset of my PMR. I did my best to gradually adjust, in both time changes, to taking my meds on whatever was local time and, knock on wood, have not experienced a flare up, to date. I've been back in EDT for the last 4 days.

Good on you! Glad we don't all have to suffer...

Meals are important in our drug schedules as well. I just learned
one of my meds can be less effective with my morning coffee.
I always take NSAID with a meal as well.
