I am not Muslim myself. But my wife and I are writers. And we are poets. A lot of the poets are huge fans of the Sufi poets like Rumi and Hafiz.
My wife and I used to see Coleman Barks read Rumi at the Dodge Poetry Festival. Just so incredibly wonderful.
The correct greeting is "As-salaamu alaikum...right?
My wife works for Seton Hall University. In 2015, she helped set up a unity concert at Carnegie Hall. They had original compositions from one Christian composer, one Muslim composer and one Jewish composer.
I wish everyone could get along and all the anger and hatred and violence could just stop. Maybe someday in the distant future?
Here's a clip about the concert they put together.
My wife was actually in the chorus...in this clip.
How nice to meet a poet at a medical support group.
I am a poetry lover, and I have always envied poets. Rumi and Gibran are so profound.
Yes, the correct form of Islamic greeting is As-salaamu alaikum, and it means may you have peace. The response is Wa alaikum salam, meaning may you have peace, too.
I'm glad to know your wife is a poet, too, and a singer to boot. Please say hi to her for me.
