Discovered cancer spot on my lung after covid-19
I was being treated for shortness of breath which never went away after my at home bout with COVID 19 over a year ago. A scan of my lungs showed a spot which tested to be positive for cancer.
Has anyone had a similar circumstance?

No, maybe someone else will post. As i look at it, that shortness of breath got you to the doctor to find the spot. Sometimes getting care for one thing helps bring something else to light!!! I have read how lung cancers have much more promise now than ever.
Be good to yourself. I hope the doctors are treating you.
I experienced SOB and placed on home oxygen after Covid in 2020. A CT of my chest showcd a GGO on my left lung. In 2023, a repeat scan showed a semi-solid component had developed. That same spot lit up on a PET scan and I had a wedge reaction of the nodule area this year. It was adenocarcinoma stage 1A. I recovered from the successful surgery. I am scheduled for surveillance.
What good news...on myself they found the spot, confirmed it is cancerous and now I meet with the surgeon to see what path they have in mind for my situation. Of course, so far, they are blaming it on my smoking, but I was very healthy until a year and a half ago I had COVID. Ever since I'm short of breath and weaken when I exert myself...time will tell. By the way...I'm 75.
I'm new to this. What is SOB and what is a GGO?
Short of breath and ground glass opacity (sometimes ground glass nodule). GGOs are transparent things that show up on a CT. A bit like a cloud you can see through. 95% of them are benign. It's only when they became solid they are an issue.
There is at least one study that investigates gates SARS as an oncovirus.

I have had Covid 3 times and 2 months ago a malignant Adenocarcinoma was spotted in my lung. Doctors say these are not connected to Covid. I am a non smoker and no other contact with other cancer causing agents. Guess we’ll never know for sure if Covid has anything to do with the cancer.
My scenario was exactly the same...SOB, Scan, PET Scan and then they went in to test for cancer...positive.
Now I don't know what stage I'm at, I guess I'll find out when I meet the surgeon.
I did. Clear before, SCLC afterwards
Hello @togerm, Welcome to Mayo Connect! I'm glad that your cancer was found so you and the doctors can take action now. I know it's common to want to know what caused the cancer, but sometimes we will just never know. Lung cancer has been one of the most common cancers across the world for many years, including the years prior to COVID appearing in 2020. I'm not a clinician or researcher, and my lung cancer was growing and diagnosed before COVID. Doctors that assume all lung cancers are caused by smoking aren't doing people like us any favors either. I don't know what caused my cancer (I'm a never smoker). I was told that sometimes biology makes mistakes, and most of those mistakes are corrected by the amazing systems in our bodies that protect us from bad things, but sometimes those mistakes can't be corrected, cells multiply and create cancer. I know that may seem simple, but it helped me to stop searching for the root cause.
I wish you well with your appointment. The PET should show if there are other areas of concern. Are you getting a list of questions together for the appointment? Do you have someone that can go with you?
