Crisis planning? Managing costs?
Hi all.
I have been battling the whole range of mental health diagnoses over the last 20yrs ranging from major depression to skitzoeffective bipolar.
I am good up until the meds quit working at the prescribed dose and when life is low stress i can survive without. This last time i got stuck moving. Didnt know if i should drive 2hrs to providers i have seen before, somebody local and new. The “married family” that cared oh so much literally ignored my plan, violated the last ounce of personal space i had, and judged me for decompensating. I ended up flipping them off. Running away and getting to the ER because i knew i was that bad.
Ive filled out a ton of these “crisis plans” they were explained to me to be used to prevent hospitalization. They all sound good in theory and look great on paper, but when in real crisis and experiencing symptoms like disorganized speech they are absolutely useless!! Then i end up in the hospital and my advanced care directive helps me.
Is there a better way to write them beforehand that helps make them work? The stigma is so bad in my experience the “loving caring family” sets it to the side and plays doctor on you basically setting you up to overdose because theyre not comfortable taking you in for help if you can still hold a conversation.
Also that last part. Staying out of ER is most cost effective. How is anybody expected to function and live a good quality of life if the treatment sucks it all away with 4k hospital visits and expensive treatments, medications with side effects that take away from quality of life?

Welcome to Mayo Connect, sounds like you have been struggling for years. To bad the crisis plans have not worked.
Have the crisis plans help at all, if not, why do you think crisis plans have not worked?
