Compression in a hearing aid

Posted by orgullodemexico @orgullodemexico, Jul 23 10:01pm

Phonak hearing aids can be configured using Prescribed Compression; Semi-Linear and Linear.

Can someone explain in laymen terms how each of these types of compression effect speech inteligibility? Is one of these three more commonly used than the others?

Is prescribed compression calculated from the clients audiogram?

TIA

This might be a question for the mentor of the group. That being said I would really like to know the answer. Hearing people clearly is what I miss the most about my natural loss of hearing over time.
Also another question for the mentor of the group. What will LE Bluetooth and Auracast eventually mean for people with hearing loss?

Phonak Hearing Aid Community might help with your question. I'm interested because I am having more trouble understanding conversation.

Found this while learning more about Phonak's compression...

A web search for "Phonak compression" will also yield many documents on theory and research activities published by Phonak; lots of good reading.

Hope this helps,
