Changing from prednisone to NSAID’s
I have had pmr for nearly 6months and came off prednisone (15mg) down to 0 about a month ago. I have pain every day in varying degrees and can’t lift my arms up further than my shoulder. It seems to affect my knee joints which makes it hard to walk some days. I eat well (I am a pescatarian) and follow a Mediterranean diet which is very anti-inflammatory. I want to know if there is anything I can use i.e muscle balm for pair relief, so I can be more mobile. I am 60 yrs & work 5 days per week and it would be great to have some advice as to any other natural treatments for this condition?

I’m usually not very good with the short answers, either 😂
Thanks again for all your helpful information!
I can really only add encouragement to those of you that lived a life with prednisone. You are the experts. Keep up the good work.
Pain from arthritis is not as bad as it was when I was younger. Except for when I’m developing one of those nodes in my fingers from my osteoarthritis-that really hurts bad until the “bump” is fully formed! The pain from my PMR can be moderate to severe, especially in my neck and shoulders. I can’t take NSAID pain relievers so the only thing that works when it’s bad is an opioid (oxycodone mixed with Tylenol). I started this post surgery after I broke my kneecap 3 years ago. I’m under supervision of a Pain management team as they are very strict in giving out this medication! I’m no longer using this med for my post surgical knee pain— no knee pain, just PMR pain 🥲.
Anyway. I’m in the process of making an appointment with my pulmonary doctor so he can clear me for the Actemra and then I will see the rheumatologist to start the Actemra.. I hope to get off both prednisone and opioid pain medication with this.
For Glinda47: I know how you feel!! My doctor gave me a short term prescription for a “”sleeping pill” and it gave me horrible nightmares! No more sleeping pills for me!
So I thought I would try a “natural” remedy, Melatonin.
Took it at bedtime with a half of my pain pill and I was sleepwalking into walls on the way to the bathroom! Which is why I no longer use melatonin.! When I take a pain pill at bedtime, this sometimes helps me sleep. Or I will do some reading or put on a movie— that works for me and I have a huge movie collection. Physical relations usually works too if I’m not having pain! 😍
lol. That would be natural relief. Just at your age hard to imagine nightly. 🙂
Yes it is a natural relief 😂
Yes it is harder at our age since my hubby and I both have arthritis! 🥲
We have been together over 51 years and always had a very good physical relationship! Body massages and back rubs work good for us, helping to relax if we can’t get to sleep😍❤️

I meant to say it’s a “natural remedy” for sleep, just not possible every night at our age and with all of our health issues….😂😂🥲
THC/CBD gummies 10mg at bedtime have been very effective for me the last year. I could always fall asleep easily but not stay asleep. What is it about 3am that seems to be a common wide awake problem for people? I got a lot of middle of the night reading during those long nights for years! Now I most often sleep for 6-8 hours solid. No side effects other than some decent sleep. Is legal in the state I live in, so I have no difficulty accessing it. Best wishes and hope that you find what works for you.
Wish I could do the gummies, but could never deal with MJ. So the THC is out for me. Could try CBD but probably would freak out on it just due to pre-existing mental fear!!!!! Glad that works for you.
Glad you found something that works!
Knowing you have a pill that won't affect you negatively like the other two is often enough to help you relax. The reading or movie often helps me too. I also watch ASMR videos for the last decade actually. They used to help more...I need a break!
LOVE that you and your husband still enjoy an intimate relationship...also saw your note below about backrubs and massages. Oh so wonderful to have that closeness.
