@veronica1955
My numbers are a bit higher than yours. Kappa 88.8, Lambda 19.8, k/l 4.49.
The figures have barely moved since I was diagnosed. They have creeped up a tiny bit, but it’s nothing that I worry about.
Veronica,
I can agree with those who have expressed the overall ease of their experiences with BMB.
If your physician still recommends the testing and you have access to it, I would probably follow through if I were in your shoes.
There are more definitive tests that can be done with these samples, including special staining of cells, that provides very accurate information.
I have had BMB done with sedation and without.
Both situations were quite simple, quick, and very tolerable. There were no complications and the pokes healed well.
If you have any anxiety about going into this diagnostic procedure, your referring physician might prescribe an Ativan tablet or something similar for you to take prior.
The information gained will be helpful as a tool for specific diagnosis now as well as by providing a baseline for the future.
Beat wishes!
My current kappa is 283 and kappa/lambda is 19.3; they have been ramping up from 29 and 2.3 for the last 5 years. My BMB 8 years ago was for baseline, and just showed early stage deranged cells. A scientific paper I read called them deranged, rather than precancerous, a somewhat softer term. My oncologist indicated another BMB once the ratio hits around 60; I see him Friday, so we shall see.
