I’ve used Peppermint capsules intermittently for years to relieve gas pain and pressure. They do work somewhat, depending on how severe the pressure is. I also MiraLax ad Metamucil every day. I use the peppermint “as needed” on occasions when my gut just isn’t behaving.

I've used Heather's Peppermint Tummy Tea to help relieve gas pain and pressure. I like the taste of the Fennel Tummy Tea which is a licorice like taste but I think the peppermint tea works better for me.

I have used peppermint and it has helped. However, peppermint does seem to aggravate acid reflux.

Might want to look into ginger and also fennel.

Relief From Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Fennel has antispasmodic and gas-relieving effects that make it an effective treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In one study, fennel combined with curcumin significantly improved symptoms and quality of life for people with IBS over a 30-day trial.

my note: Curcumin is from turmeric. Turmeric and ginger are closely related plants.

If you ever eat Indian food...at the end of the meal they have these seeds as a digestive. Those are fennel seeds. Taste a bit like licorice. They often add candied licorice in the mix.

I use Heather's peppermint tea too. It is excellent and I buy it in bulk. Her peppermint pills worked for awhile, but at some point they proved too strong. I have never had true pain though, just discomfort.

To my knowledge the peppermint capsules are for inflammation, thats what my doc said to use them for.

I have RA and when i was first on oral methotrexate, I drank peppermint tea to help with nausea. I agree it will likely aggravate reflux if you suffer from that. I’ve never heard it used for inflammation but since I have that everywhere (or so it seems some days) I’m willing to try it - though I much prefer ginger tea.

Sadly I will have to forego fennel benefits. I couldn’t possibly keep it down. 🙂

Sorry, I know it is hard to delve into these things and find solutions. I am in the same boat.

I tried IBgard peppermint capsules the other day to see if it would help with IBS. Not long after I took the first 2 capsules, I began having burning pain in my throat. I did drink almost 2 glasses of water with the capsules. I then began having burning pain in other "areas" that typically shouldn't be burning!!!! Needless to say, I won't be using them again.
