Has anyone tried acupuncture for neuropathy?

Posted by Nancy Banks @banksnc49, Jun 27, 2018

I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

If you have access to marijuana, it can really help with the neuropathy and any an anxiety as well. My dad had pretty bad neuropathy and found respite using marijuana (though I do not recall the THC/CBD ratios that worked the best). Best of luck to folks dealing with this!

The reply really focused on the broader question of “what is effective at providing respite from the discomfort of neuropathy?”. Several of the prior posts addressed the ineffectiveness of acupuncture so I opted to share my experiences with what works. Sorry for any confusion on your end. Hopefully this helps

I tried at least 30 sessions but it made no difference to my neuropathy! But it also depends on how one’s body reacts to it. May be you can try few sessions and see if it is working on you.

I did 10 sessions with no results positive or negative

I have had relief through acupuncture. My acupuncturist has intuitive healing powers. She can put her hands lightly under my head while I’m on my back, and see/feel where energy is “stuck”. Many times, it’s from stress, and she has been able to clear those areas via the proper needle placements. She also can do a bit of energy transfer with her hands on the top and bottom of my hip area. It is truly amazing, and I’ve gone to many acupuncturists, but no one has been this effective. She also prescribes herbs that help as well - I do have many conditions including Bronchiectasis which she has done wonders for. I recommend that if you find a really good acupuncturist, they can make a difference. I would not brush off this modality because one acupuncturist has not been effective - try others!

It did not benefit me.

I have had acupuncture and have not had much relief from it. I have found it depends on who is giving the treatment. I have had great relief with an Asian Clinic in Florida that did acupressure. It was combined with PT it totally took the edema from my legs. I have found if you combine a chiro or Pt service with acupuncture insurance often pays at least some of the cost. Hope this helps.

I’ve had great relief from my Neuropathy going to Acupuncture! Have been going for a couple years now. Also have back problems he puts the needles in my back along with my legs, feet, toes.
I go twice a week, but I really do think it depends on the acupuncturist that is doing the treatments. This is the 3 rd person I’ve gone to because the first two people just couldn’t get it right. So I moved on to someone else. I’m a nurse and I refuse to stay with a Doctor or anyone treating me if it doesn’t work or their is poor communication.

I too have had relief with neuropathy pain from Acupuncture. It does depend on the practitioner, I believe. The relief would last for a couple of days.
