Recovery expectations 6 weeks after HoLEP prostate surgery.

I had the HolEP procedure six weeks ago. All is good except that I have a dull pain in the perineum area when I urinate. Is this because of the long healing time for the urethra? Is this normal? My follow up appointment with my urologist is six weeks away.

I think it's normal. If you search for "HoLep log what was your pre and post-op experience". This is where I starred and posted my holep experience

To this day 5 months later, I still get shooting pains like a shock every once in awhile from my rectum to the tip of my penis. I just had my check up last week. He said everything look good. Did not express any concern about the shooting pains. Also whenever I go to number two. If I push too hard it's like I'm missing something for my muscle to push against. I have actually pulled a muscle down there..

I am also about 6 weeks Potts-op for HOLEP and am having a similar sensation, although not all of the time. It can persist for a few minutes after urinating. I think this is not an unexpected symptom and will get better and lessen over time.

It is always interesting to see the varied post op experiences. I am one year out from HoLEP and doing well. The nerves that innervate the voiding response pass posterior (behind) the prostate and during the process of coring out the gland nerves can become exposed or irritated. Over time the inflammation around the nerves should decrease and nerve irritation lessened. There's a lot going on "down there".

I had HoLEP four months ago and have had a very positive outcome - I've had to restrain myself from wanting to show off how well I pee : )
I haven't had the pains mentioned above, but I wanted to throw this in: I had Long Covid from 3/20 to 12/23. All the symptoms got knocked out by Paxlovid (YMMV). I was convinced that urinating was worse with LC, but there doesn't seem to be much solid literature about it affecting the prostate gland. Anyway, I got Covid again 3 weeks ago, and my LC symptoms have flared up, and...my peeing is measurably worse. It's not terrible - just harder to completely empty, and I have to take multiple attempts to know I can get out of the house for the afternoon.

So I am almost 8 weeks out after the HOLEP procedure and all of the pains/concerns that I had have resolved favorably. The discomfort that I was having behind the prostate when voiding has stopped. All good!
