Has anyone in this group undergone surgery for removal? Is it working?

I was recently diagnosed with stage 2 adenocarcinoma lung cancer in my upper left lung. Much to my surprise, the surgeon says he plans to take the whole upper left quadrant of my lungs! I thought they would only take out the 2 spots that were found. Does this sound normal? I know I will survive with missing a part of my lung, but what else should I expect? I was also told that follow up chemo is not likely, but may do so as a preventative.

I just had my scans. All clear. Right lung nodules stable. Best news I could ask for.

Hello Lisa, thank you for the note. Unfortunately, my surgery was canceled. Since my doctors also found a lesion on my skull, they decided the best treatment for the lung would be radiation which will begin Monday, the 15th for 5 days with much follow up. Always something new in my case.

@char09 , Sorry to hear that plans have changed. That seems to be common for some. Are the docs talking about a targeted radiation (SBRT or other?) for the skull lesion too?

Very sorry to read that you now have to deal with brain mets. Have they discussed the results of biomarker testing yet or talked about targeted therapy or chemo?

No, skull lesion and right lung module will be monitored for now. MRI in 6 weeks.

Hi, I had 5 radiation treatments (SBRT) for lung cancer in my right upper lobe, stage 1. My first 3-month CT scan in February showed my cancer shrunk almost in half. My second CT scan in May says it is invisible.
Praying your treatments work as well for you as mine did for me.

Thank you for that encouraging note. Good luck to you in the future.

It was never an option for me. Please know that surgery is usually only offered with curative intent. It's considered the Gold Standard for treatment.
