Teaching Hospitals

Hi, I know getting diagnosed with AI is difficult. A couple of people suggested going to a teaching hospital as they are more thorough. Any thoughts on that? Has anyone done that? I am in NJ but would be happy to go to NYC-is there any doctor or hospital you guys would recommend? Thank you!

@lynnkaren, I think teaching hospitals or major health facilities like Mayo Clinic and others are a great choice if you are struggling to get a diagnosis or need a second opinion. I did find this article from 2021 listing 13 New Jersey top teaching hospitals that hopefully one is close to you - https://www.roi-nj.com/2021/12/07/healthcare/13-n-j-hospitals-earn-top-teaching-hospital-designation-from-leapfrog-group-2-more-earn-top-general-hospital/.

Here's a list of teaching hospitals showing the ones in NJ and other states - https://healthguideusa.org/teaching_hospitals_new_jersey.htm.

I'm a Mayo Clinic Rochester patient and have been fortunate to be in their network when being diagnosed with neuropathy, PMR and a few other conditions. Here's a older 2002 reference that might give you some insights on why a teaching hospital may be a better choice.

i primarily go to be teaching hospitals. I have multiple highly trained and specialized doctors. There is also technology rarely in non-teaching hospitals. The important thing is to decide upon what speciality(ies) you need the most. Over time, i have developed a medical team of; an allergist/immunologist, a pulmonologist, briefly a hematologist, for rare drug reaction/liver toxicity—a hepatologist, sometimes a dermatologist, a GI geneticist, an endochrinologist, a neuro-opthamologost, a cornea specialist and most recently a neuro-surgeon and a radiologist…. it makes my head spin…
