What treatments has helped or not helped generalize granuloma annulare
I have tried 3 different topical creams, no help. Triamincilone, chlobesol, bethamethasone. Kenalog injections do work but they will not inject me anymore as I have too many. I tried otezla, after 2 months, just more lesions and I couldn't take the side effects anymore. Now I am going to try a jak inhibitor called opzelura cream. I'll test that for 2-3 months. If that doesn't help ill try Hydroxychloroquine pills. Most don't bother me, some itch. I just keep getting more, probably close to 100 and growing more. Anyone have had any success or fails?

Hi @bmh, A few years ago I had a small grouping of granuloma annulare near my ankle. I didn’t know what the lesions were but they had changed from little bumps to the raised ringed area. My dermatologist diagnosed them right away and gave me a prescription for Tacrolimus Ointment 1%. The areas healed and completely disappeared within the first week. I kept using it for the recommended 3+ weeks past the disappearance. They’ve never returned.
It is a topical ointment of a strong anti-inflammatory drug, so I don’t know if there’s a limit to how much can be applied if you have numerous areas. This may be something to ask your dermatologist about to see if it would be an option for you. I wish you well with finding a product that works.

Has your doctor discussed phototherapy with you?
Hydroxychloroquine pills have worked very well for me. All the GA spots are gone and have not returned!
I have them but haven't started yet. I was on otezla and so sick, I need some time to feel better before I attempt the Hydroxychloroquine. Did you have any side effects from it?
How long before spots started to go away? I saw more spots on otelza in 2 months besides being very sick.
Thanks!
No side effects. I did need to have an EKG and a vision field test before I started it. The spots started to disappear after two months.
Hi, my name is Cheryl and I have had GA since 2000 or so. I was in a group connect years ago and am now returning. I am 77 years old and have had GA on the back of my legs, back of arms and around my trunk consistently throughout the years; sometime more active than others. This summer it completely disappeared, and I was not treating it with anything, as I have never had any positive results with treatment. Then the first week of August it appeared one red dot at a time in all the usual locations. It is now spreading; no circles yet but I'll have to see. I was shocked to have it completely disappear. It has not done that in 24 years. I appreciate hearing of the latest creams and will follow the input on this forum. I just wanted to share my recent development. This GA is always a mystery and now it seems to have the ability to hibernate. Who knows why but it would be so helpful to figure it out. Have any of you had it disappear for a few months on its own? I have treated it with Triamcinolone Acetonide cream with no real positive results.
