Meningioma: Do you have a neurologist that you're very happy with?
Hello does anyone have a neurologist that you are very happy with. I think mine has given up and wants to send me to palliative care. I have a meningioma that is pressing on the trigeminal nerve.

Proton radiation therapy is used for meningiomas to deliver a high dose of radiation in a few treatments. Long-term results show that proton therapy for benign meningiomas yields excellent results with minimal side effects.

The nice part of Proton as opposed to Surgery is that there is no recovery time and no risk from anesthesia.

I haven't an answer to your question, though.
@cyndymc Are you in the U.S.? If yes, it will help with responses from the members if you would like to provide a region of the country where you are looking for a neurologist. Or, are you willing and able to travel outside of your own region?
Hi @cyndymc, welcome back. From your previous comments, I see that you and your neurologist have been actively watching your meningioma since 2019, perhaps earlier. I've expanded the title of your discussion so that it more closely reflects the question to which you are seeking an answer and moved it to the Brain Tumor support group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/brain-tumor-support-group/
If you would like to consider a brain tumor specialist at Mayo Clinic, you can submit a self-referral here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Cyndy, may I ask what has happened recently that resulted in losing confidence in your current neurologist? Has the tumor changed?
I would like to consider a brain tumor specialist but not sure how to do this. My Neurologist seems to have given up on me and wanted to refer to Palliative care. I also cannot seem to get a follow up appointment with her. None available have to keep calling.
yes and yes. I just want someone who will take the time to work on my situation. I am 67 and I think sometimes doctors look at your age as old and just be happy with the life you have lived. I have just retired and am ready to enjoy some freedom and travel but do not feel well enough to do this.
@cyndymc It looks like @colleenyoung provided you with some good suggestions on trying to get an appointment at Mayo Clinic as well as other existing Discussions for suggestions.
Like you, I retired at age 67. I’m now 72 and while I have slowed down over the years I’m certainly not ready to sit at home. Of course you want to enjoy your retirement where I was told « every day is the weekend ». I hope you find another opinion since your current neurologist has not been responsive.
I am extremely impressed with my Duke Neurologist. He saved my life. Duke is in Durham, NC. PM me, if that is an option and I’ll provide his name. You deserve the best care possible. I hope you find the right place to help.
YOUR LOCATION??
@boomarang @cyndymc indicated that location is not an issue. She will travel to another location in the U.S.
Yes possibly
