Post Evenity DEXA numbers

Posted by susanfalcon52 @susanfalcon52, Jun 7 5:48am

So, I have my results after 12 months on Evenity.
Lumbar spine went from-2.5 to -1.8.
Left hip went from-2.0 to -1.8.
For the right hip and right femoral neck,
there are no scores, presumably because they are now titanium.

Met with my endocrinologist after finishing Evenity and getting good results. I was given the choice of Prolia or Alendronate. I had been on Alendronate for six years total on and off beginning 2013 with my last dose Jan 2022. I opted for going back on Alendronate since I am only 69 and it seemed too early to start Prolia.

I tolerated the Alendronate well previously so don't expect any problems.

My last Evenity injections were almost 3 weeks ago, I’m trying to get a Dexa scan scheduled. My rheumatologist was really pushing Prolia, I recently moved and my follow up will be with my new PCP to start. I was on Fosamax or Actonel off and on for years before Evenity with minimal manageable side effects, so I’d prefer that to Prolia. I was diagnosed in my 40’s and am now 65. I was off meds for a few years plus on a PPI, and had no clue how bad I had gotten until a painful lumbar compression fracture happened.

On and off for a total of about 6 years starting in 2013. Now starting again after successful Evenity cycle.

Aw, @sunny65,

I really hope this pain goes away for you. Have you asked your rheumatologist or PCP if a spinal x-ray is in order? It sounds like an annular tear would be more of an MRI situation. I had my first fracture in 2017 it - even tho' I had OP, I had never heard of compression fractures prior to that. The pain was debilitating and took some time to heal. My doc discovered it when a "just to rule out a fracture" x-ray was done, three or so years after the CF. The other three were "silent" frax and didn't cause any real pain. I did, however, have some life-altering issues with Tymlos, similar to what you describe.

Perhaps docs should instruct those of us who have OP how to lift, bend, not to twist and, above all, never, never, never shovel snow! Listen to your body and what it tells you.

Please stay in touch! All the best!

Thank you for your kind words. I had x-rays, MRI’s all kinds of tests. They can’t determine source of pain. I been offered to do one more additional test to rule out that pain coming from fractures. I have two fractures which I am not sure when and how I got them and two in my vertebrae from 18 months ago and these were very painful. According last MRI they healed as well. The bad part is that my pain is getting worse. All things I loved to do are taking away from me. I still try to stay positive and look for the miracle solution. Maybe Evenity make my spine stronger and pain lessens.

Thanks! Just had my first Fosamax pill today. Doing the once a week kind. The only issue is that I'm also on Meloxicam for osteoarthritis and they advise not to take them together. Not sure what I'll do about that.

@windyshores, hope you see this. I lost you somewhere! Got your emails but couldn't get back to you! Same thing with hopefullibrarian. I am hoping to go on Tymlos in the next week or two. Fingers crossed! Get back to me???

Just finished my year on Evenity and had these T-score results compared to 18 months ago:
AP Spine was -1.2; now -0.2
Femoral Neck was -3.0; now -2.8
Total Hip was -2.1; now -1.7
Total Forearm was -2.2; now -2.4
1/3 Forearm was -2.2; now -2.3
UD Forearm was -1.5; now -2.1

Surprised about the forearm numbers getting worse!

My forearm numbers are also worse. Spine and hip improved. Am waiting to post details until after the next consultation with Dr. McCormick.

I had all twelve injections of Evenity with improvement in all areas on my DEXA scan. My rheumy put me on Reclast a couple of weeks after my last shot. I think it’s a choice your doctor makes with you on what’s best for you with regard to continuing treatment. I’ll be on recast for another 2 years. After that maybe there will be something even better out there. Good luck!

Could you share your Dexa numbers after Evenity? I also had Reclast and I had Prolia before Evenity and am wondering if Evenity will even be effective. I have had 5 sets of Evenity shots now.

I recently had surgery and am currently in a rehab facility. When I get home next week I can give you that info. I don’t have all areas due to metal in my body but I’ll share what I have.
