Dear Sue, you are right, it is dangerous to eat poisoned food. It is my first time to try and I hope it is successful. If not, I will just take probiotics. lol

Did you follow a recipe? I remember putting a plastic bag sealed with brine on top of the pickles then a heavy stoneware plate to keep everything submerged, then the cover on the crock. That excludes all air during fermentation.
