MOVING AND EXERCISE WITH PMR

Posted by ag49 @ag49, Jul 5 9:42am

Hi 🥰
Here's a minute video from Mayo about the importance of moving. It's essential as we get older, and especially with autoimmune disorders (PMR, etc) that we MOVE, stretch, exercise, to maintain our mobility and balance. It's difficult and discouraging when we're unable to reach, bend, sit, rise - - basic activities hurt!! But as much as possible, we should make a sincere effort to get our lives back. We can do this! 🤗

I have a compilation of 60’s and 70’s music on a CD that I put on and do most of my old dance moves to it. Also like to dance to “dance the night away” from the Barbie movie. 😂 When I have a little energy this really helps me mentally and physically

🤗🥰 Dancing is a fun way to be active. Dance like nobody's watching. 😊

Good to have another exercise video. Here's one I found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjk27oGh2aQ

Six months ago, I could barely do them. Today I'm back to my daily Yoga practice.

You're right. Through last year I used to do that, including some foot stomping in the dancing to help build bone in the hips. My hips were in good condition at the dexa scan a few months back. More music and dancing to lift the spirits, stretch, and build bone!

Dancing is probably my main source of exercise besides grocery shopping! It’s my fun way to get some movement in these old bones!😂🥰💕

I started back to regular exercising with Tai Chi, which I studied for several years in the past. Then I added a weight routine using the machines. I will.mention that I go to a medical fitness facility- it's a little different from the Ys I belong to. There is Cardio and Pulmonary rehabs on site, along with quite few other medical rehab and monitoring and patient support services.
Then I added Yoga Basics (not my old hippie yoga!! ) and a couple of stretching classes. My rheumatologist wanted me to get out of the pool and do all weight bearing exercise, for my skeletal health. It's working out great! Since adding Kevzara to my Prednisone taper, I've increased my daily syep count significantly, and now go to 6 classes a week over 5 days. No question about it - the meds are the most powerful contributors to my improvement and wellbeing but the diet and exercise move me from "doing OK getting by" to "really doing well, thanks for asking!".

Wow. That awesome! 🥰
Weight bearing, either body weight or resistance, is the best for bone health and muscle mass. Keep up the great work! 😊
