Bronchiectasis and MAC

I have been following this group for a while now and have found it to be so helpful and informative. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis a little over a year ago and MAC followed by pseudomonas. I was treated for the pseudomonas over winter and my recent CT scan was much improved. I am a big coffee lover and was told by another website not to use a Keurig coffeemaker and was wondering what kind of coffee maker other people use.

Yes it was UNC Chapel Hill bronchiectasis center and I'm sorry I should have been more specific it was 28 days of inhaled tobramycin and oral ciprofloxacin. I'm so grateful to UNC they have been wonderful!

Thank you. Did they clear the psudomonas infection?

I stopped using a coffee machine before being diagnosed with MAC and brochiectasis because I am so allergic to fungi. They tell you to clean it out with vinegar which is also fermented and so not a good idea for me. I use organic freeze-dried coffee so I don't get chemicals that were sprayed on the bean. I treat myself to a latte everyday with organic oatmilk and organic instant coffee. I really miss dairy, but this is a pretty good compromise.

I have a Keurig and am MAC free for the last 15 months and I still drink my coffee daily using my Keurig. I clean my Keurig as often and like I would clean all my breathing devices (very diligently) with no issues so far.

I’ve had Bronchiectisis for 40 years and until the past 10 yrs I was treated with antibiotics and inhalers (several types) when I had a flare up. In recent years the mucus has gotten much heavier and I’ve had to start clearing lungs every day. I’ve had MAC, pseudomonas, RSV, pneumonia, and bronchitis dozens of times. I currently use albuterol, Dulera and a vibrating vest to clear my lungs. I have a nebulizer I use with Albuterol and a saline solution. My pulmonologist put me on 3 antibiotics for the MAC - 12 months. I’m not sure if it’s gone or not.

I use my Keurig every day. What is the concern about using it with lung problems?

Some people think the tubing in Keurig's can harbor bacteria (which I am sure they can) but I clean mine often with vinegar and have had no problem so far.

I was told by another website that they harbor bacteria. I'm assuming because they hold water for a while but I really don't know the exact reason. I switched to a French press and sometimes just drink instant coffee.
