@drummergirl

I was just told I have very early MD AND very early glaucoma! All this found during cataract surgery exams.
Apparently, my regular eye Dr saw the spot, but since no change in 9 years, he never called it out. My eye pressure has never been abnormal, so he did not suspect, but they are seeing a smaller donut hole around the optic nerve than normal. I am awaiting my appt with glaucoma specialist. I am devastated, as I am coping with the aftermath of an aggressive breast cancer and have been hospitalized with a punctured lung, undergone hip replacement, dental surgery and cataract surgery resulting in very dry eyes and less than perfect correction. All in the space of three years.
Just when I thought I could take a breath, I got hit with this.
My mother was told in her 40’s that she had MD. She died in her mid 70’s and drove until she died. I can only hope and pray that I will be like her. I am in my mid 70’s now. I am more afraid of untreatable MD than I am the cancer. Thanks to those who have offered encouraging words.

Oh I understand so well!
After soldiering on through some difficult diagnosis, when I got my diagnosis of MD, it truly was "the straw that broke the camels back"; just seemed like the step too far!
Then I spoke to my friends,all in our 70s, and they all had it too.
They just shrugged, "so?"
Normalized the whole experience.
Then I could get back to putting my energies into my big ticket diagnosises.
Glad you are getting encouragement from others ... that's what Connect is all about.
Have a great day!

Hi, I just wanted to give you a word of encouragement. I’m actually 83 now and was diagnosed with glaucoma at least 15 years ago. I’ve had absolutely no change in my vision or eyesight since being diagnosed with glaucoma. I am on one drop per night and I get tested every year and no change. I’ve also been diagnosed with DRY AMD two years ago. I have it in one eye so far And still have no problems with my eyesight. I’m hoping I have seven or eight years before I see any big changes will keep our fingers crossed. Good luck. I hope this makes you feel a little better.
