What are some favorite movies?
I have loved movies since I first watched Tarzan as a kid. Now they are a valuable distraction for me as I feel empty and isolated and alienated. Here are a few of my favorites:
Adaptation
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Saving Private Ryan
Little Miss Sunshine

Unfortunately, "Idiocracy" is a documentary.
People say that "An Inconvenient Truth" was ahead of its time. Svante Arrhenius predicted man-made global warming would become a problem, in the late 1800s. Still have to give Al a lot of credit for sounding the alarm, though.
I saw "The Planet of the Apes" for the first time at an all-nite POTA film festival at a drive-in theater in Northern Ill. when I was in high school. But, because I was there with my new girlfriend at the time, I didn't actually see much of it.
I've never seen "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". I'll have to check it out.
I haven't seen "Inside Out". But I've seen "Sideways", "Bottoms Up", "Upside Down", and "Up the Down Staircase". Does that count?
Sellers' character in "Being There", seems to remind me of a much less malevolent version of a real life D.C. figure .... hmm, I wonder who?
"Contact" features David Morse in a small role as Jodie Foster's Dad. He's one of the finest character actors out there, IMHO.
"Blazing Saddles": One of the greatest comedies of all time and there's no way you could make it today. I love all of Mel Brooks' films!
"Shape of Things to Come". Never seen it. Will watch.
some favorite movies include The Great Escape:
Donald Pleasence: This Great Escape Actor Was A Real POW
Flew 60 bombing missions, was shot down and served a couple of years as a POW!!!
WOW!
He was an underrated actor. Very good as a bad guy, too ... like in "Fantastic Voyage".
Not to mention his turn as Ernst Stavro Blofed in the James Bond movie, "You Only Live Twice".
(Notice the resemblance to Jeff Bezos?)
Great Scott!
You're right!
The resemblance to
Mr. Amazon is amazin'!
GREAT MOVIES.
THORN BIRDS_
CHARIOTS OF FIRE
Dressmaker
OUT OF AFRICA
In memory of Donald Sutherland who recently died, I think of one of his lesser-known movies, "Max Dugan Returns." Anyone else have a favorite Donald Sutherland movie?

I certainly have to put in with "Lincoln." Just seems like a very realistic portrait of the political fighting and some of the details of daily life.

All of them. He was a fantastic actor. "Mash" is still my favorite film of his, but I also loved him in "Six Degrees of Separation" which benefits from sterling performances by Will Smith and Stockard Channing.
Bob Dylan movie coming out in the fall...
