Undecided choice of drugs for Osteoporosis

Posted by peace44 @peace44, Oct 10, 2023

I am 80 years old women and have borderline osteoporosis which affects my entire body. My doctor wants me to take Prolia and the Rheumatologist wants me to take Reclast. I’m unhappy with both choices as the side effects are great and I do not tolerate new drugs well. I am very undecided and am considering doing not taking annty drugs for this condition. I have never had a fracture and I’m very active Any opinions or advice.

I too have intolerance/inability to metabolize some drugs/vitamins so I’ve opted not to take meds, I am 70 and have osteopenia. Two physicians recommended checking out & joining “Osteostrong”. Each MD stated they had data on several patients who showed improvement or stabilization in the results of their DEXA scans & one doctor signed her mother up for 1 year membership at “Osteostrong”. Based on my DEXA scores, after 8 months of 1x weekly sessions my overall bone density has stabilized. My normal weekly activity is 3-4x walking (outside 1 mile) or 25 min/4 miles on the elliptical &/or recumbent bike. Something to look into for you.

My 8th Evenity shots are coming up and I have had noticable side effects. I hope your journey with evenity is easy and effective.

Thanks for sharing...my doc has recommended Evenity for one year...then Reclast to maintain any gains I make on the evenity.
Can you share the noticeable side effects which you experienced.?

I blew it. Should have been "no noticable side effects" sorry. Hope the same will be the case for you.

I have my 12th dose of Evenity this week. Other than some fatigue at first dose - nothing.
Next month - Reclast.

I’m no longer in the acute phase.

I’m walking and taking water based PT twice/week.

I’m taking colleges, D3, K2-mk4, K2-mk7, whey protein powder, cysteine and drinking milk for protein.

What brand of vitamins did/do you take? I don’t want to take the prescriptions. Ibandronate made my IBS-d worse.
Thank you!
