Replies to "Since starting hydroxyurea approximately two years ago, I have experienced worse tinnitus. I have had tinnitus..."
Yes, tinnitus is bad at times. But I'm 70 and use white noise machines. I have it on my list of Qs for the hemo in November.
I have never experienced tinnitus until early this year after I had been on hydroxyurea at varying doses with several long breaks OKed by my hematologist. I developed pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear only. For a month it was intermittent and only at night when lying on my left side. Now it is a constant 24/7 whooshing in time with my pulse. I have not seen tinnitus on the HU side effects lists I've read. It was noted on side effects reported after the most recent type of COVID vaccination. I've found very few studies comparing the percent of persons taking HU who develop a particular side effect to the percentage of the general population who report the same side effect.
I’ve had tinnitus for years before starting the treatment. I would not say it worsened tinnitus. I can’t take hydroxy anymore due to severe side affect of high fever. Scared.
I've had tinnitus for YEARS. I haven't notice change since ET or HU.
I am sorry you're having this serious problem.
I always have ringing in my ears -- but it began when I went on low-dose aspirin, which was two months before I started taking HU.
Even on my high dose (10 capsule/week), the HU has not exacerbated the ringing, which for me is simply the sound of slightly-thinned blood flowing in my head.
Your situation may be entirely different! Hope you will get helpful comments from others.
