"Cognitive Function Substantial evidence also links social isolation and loneliness with accelerated cognitive decline and an increased risk of dementia in older adults, (10,41) including Alzheimer’s disease. (163) Chronic loneliness and social isolation can increase the risk of developing dementia by approximately 50% in older adults, even after controlling for demographics and health status.
