Looking For A Hotel Suggestion: Mayo Rochester, MN
I have an appointment scheduled for mid December at the Rochester Clinic and I’m looking for just the right hotel. My wants and needs:
1) Covered parking and it needs to be readily accessible - I do not travel light😉;
2) I’m a walker so I don’t need to be right across the street and I’m a Minnesota gal so I can handle the weather, but I do want to be able to walk to my appointments;
3) I’m a germaphobe. I travel with my own bedding, hence the need to be able to get things from my car. I know. I’m weird. We own two small inns in Florida so let’s just say I’m very well aware of hospitality standards. No matter where I stay, any time I travel, I always leave the room much cleaner than when I checked in.
It’s a short list, but weirdly specific. I’d like a fridge in the room, but I do not need a kitchenette. I don’t eat breakfast so that’s not a concern either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have been coming to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for almost ten years. With two exceptions, I have always stayed at the Kahler Grand. The building is old and has problems associated with an older building. I have found that storage is very good….lots of space in the bathroom and nice roomy closets. Sometimes I have had to let the water run for a bit until it got hot but then the shower was great. I have had no problems with the climate control. You can’t beat the location!
I stay at the Residence Inn Mayo Clinic and ask for the Mayo Clinic discounted rate. The hotel offers covered parking for a daily fee.
It is an easy 2 block walk to the campus on the street, or a 10 minute walk to the main Mayo Clinic building if you take the hotel elevator to the covered subway level which connects the Mayo Campus buildings. If you need to travel to the St Mary's Campus, you can take the Mayo Patient Shuttle or walk 1 mile.
The hotel has a full breakfast each morning with a good selection of foods. Each unit has a kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, and cooking utensils. If I am staying for an extended time, I order grocery items delivered by Walmart. There are restaurants within walking distance.
I always ask for a quiet room and I have not had any issues with noise.
@rwarneke Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I know you’ve been around Connect for several months now, but you’ve just now made your presence known, so Welcome! I’m glad you’ve joined.
May I ask if you have any concerns that we can help you with? And what took you to The Mayo Clinic?
What are their dinners like? Their description was kind of vague, just said light dinner and soda.
I just arrived for my first visit and can appreciate your needs. I am not happy at Hilton. It smells like hospital probably more than Mayo Hospital. Clean but rooms are old. Starting to question if I am going to be happy coming here for care so still looking for a better one. Thx for your post.
I have stayed at the Residence Inn 3 times at Mayo. It is convenient, has underground parking, good breakfast, kitchenette. I would definitely stay there again.
I have this on the wall at my volunteer desk at the Clinic. Helpful for someone out of town. Good luck with your search.
During July, 2022, when I was a patient at St Mary's, we used the Holiday Inn. My criteria was free parking, free breakfast and walking distance (.2 miles, 5 minutes). I was at the hotel 4 nights and husband was there for 9 nights. It was clean and convenient, no kitchenette but we would not have used it. It was on the concierge list.

So I posted that after checking in and now I am at the end of my first visit here. First, I can't believe I ever doubted Mayo Clinic. It was absolutely amazing and I will do anything to continue here. That said, I am still looking for my forever hotel. Hilton didn't end up being so bad. Yes, the hallways/room smelled. They are just a dated but I will say it was extremely clean. It was perfectly fine, just not great. The pluses are great fitness center, pool with hot tub, location to Mayo Clinic, and the most amazing breakfast place - Benedicts. I had to stay an extra night and Hilton was full. I moved over to Hyatt house and don't recommend it. Just very "basic" and fine for one night but I would not want to stay here long term. I need to return in a month and I plan on booking The Berkman. Unfortunately found it too late but I think it may be what you are looking for. A spacious apartment with kitchen & outdoor pool looks really really nice. I also would consider Residence Inn (great location). I will not stay at Kahler or the Marriott. Just too old for me.
