@bigbang321 your post really interested me. I’m post transplant pancreas (2005) and I was put on Prograf /Tacrolimus for immune suppression/ anti rejection. It was called FK-506 at that time. Now going on 20 years later I am in the market for a kidney transplant. My eGFR bounces from 14 - 42, but is currently in the low 30’s. I’ve gone through pre-transplant evaluation and have been approved/accepted for kidney transplant. I’m inactively listed at Mayo in Rochester (because of my relatively good and stable eGFR). I’m looking for a living kidney donor and hope to have a preemptive transplant before dialysis becomes a necessity. When you mention the “match protocol” do you mean “paired donation”? How are you coming along in your process?
Hi, just happened to see your posting. Research with Stem cells are being used on kidney transplant patients in a couple are large major hospitals in US and possibly in other countries. The donors stem cells are given to the patient receiving new kidney prior to surgery.
. These stems from the matched donor, I believe from a sibling or parent, or the recipient's child. IT's my understanding several hospitals in US are using stems cell as part of research. This allows the person receiving the kidney not having to receive anti rejection medication are are tough on the person receiving the new kidney. Investigate in your area or look up on internet.. Stem Cell / kidney transplant patients. Best of Luck
