How long should a dose of Methylprednisolone last?

Posted by susanew @susanew, Jun 21 4:14am

I am finally back down to 1 mg. Methylprednisolone. I take my dose at 9 PM but by 8 pm the next day, I am achy. How long does a dose suppose to last? Does anyone feel the loss of effectiveness during the day? Am I dosing too low?

I'm guessing we are all a little different but here's what I found on your question while you wait for members with experience to respond.

"Official answer. After taking a dose of a Methylprednisolone tablet it should be out of your system after approximately 13 to 20 hours. Methylprednisolone tablets have an elimination half-life of approximately 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours. This is the time it takes for the drug levels in your plasma to reduce by half."

Thank you. I never knew that. So maybe then I should take my dose much later or very, very early a.m. so that it remains in my system later the next day. Reason I take at night is so that I am not stiff upon waking in a.m. to feed and walk our dog.

I've always been an early riser and when my PMR was active I took my morning prednisone dose before 8 am and it normally got me through until the next morning. There are others who've had good results splitting their dosage also.
