How to find relief for strong body pain in first week of second chemo

Posted by charlotte12 @charlotte12, Jun 16 4:35pm

This is my 3rd day of strong pain in knees, wrist, legs, ankles after
my second chemo. I have taken Advil, 200mg, and ibuprofen 325 mg,
every 6 hrs, does not help. What works for you?

@charlotte12 It's been 2 days since you first started this Discussion. How are you feeling today? Has the pain changed to a more tolerable level?

the pain is tolerable today, no medication needed this morning, yesterday I had to take oxycotone morning and evening, which worked
great, I can judge now when my pain needs to be medicated-

Hello-
I am a little late to comment. But a couple things. If you are not taking claritin daily, I would ask oncologist about this. This for lots of women, helps reduce bone pain. I have taken it since Day 1 of chemo, and have never had "bone pain". (I do not have Avastin in my regimen, as you do)

Also, everyone is different, but for me the cumulative effects are real. I had Chemo #5 last week. It knocked me down harder than #4. (for me it is extreme fatigue and a "restless" feeling in my whole body). Chemo 1-3 was about the same, but 4 & 5. Ugh. best of luck to you.

Oxy was truly the only thing that could touch that bone pain. Claritin was just a joke.

Oxy was truly the only thing that helped me with that bone pain. Claritin did nothing. I was concerned at first because did not want to take opioids but I just took 5 mg at night for the worst few nights and it helped so much. Take stool softener at same time though!
Good luck. Hope its starting to reside for you.

i share your assessment, oxy truely worked for me and the pain relief lasted about 6 hours or through the sleep, the worst
bone pain lasted for about 4 days, then it subsided and I feel
much better now-thanks

Claritin works for me almost immediately! I’d start there.

@charlotte12 This is good news that your pain has evolved into "tolerable". Did you oncologist suggest that you stay ahead of your pain with medication? One of my doctors told me that one time about surgical and medical pain as you are experiencing and that I will know when pain is developing.

I, too, experienced unbelievable pain. I was advised to take Zyrtec and given a prescription for pain (Tramedol). This is the only thing that helped.

Praying for you

I had to double my oxycodone 5 and I used cold packs and then a heating pad on my legs. I also used ibuprofen and tylenol. It is the worst pain I have ever experienced. I had my last treatment 4 weeks ago, and I still have leg pain. You can do this!
