Timing of taking prednisone
Some of the side effects I have from prednisone include shakiness, blurred vision, inability to stand for long periods and general lack of coordination. I’m a painter so this isn’t helpful.
I noticed by day’s end those conditions improved. I started taking the prescription before bed. Early days, but it seems to work. Has anyone else tried this AND is there any reason one shouldn’t?
Thanks.

Hello my name is Tiffany so my question is I'm supposed to take my Prednisone In the morning and lunch and at supper time and at bedtime so I was wondering if it would be alright to do it every 3 hours?
Hello Tiffany. You won't get any medical advice here, just opinions based on our own experiences. Do you have polymyalgia rheumatica, because that's an unusual way to take prednisone for PMR, split into four doses a day. Also, 4 doses a day would mean you're already taking it every 3-4 hours or so. Was it your doctor who told you to do it that way?
Dang. you deserve a medal of honor. "for 40 years (I am 45, female)." You would definitely know your prednisone. Useful information if your required to take the drug. You have done very well. I think , at least for me, that list would be hard to live by. But then you do what you have to. I preferred to put PMR in remission and get off. I am still left with some side effects just being on steroids for 6 months. Best of everything to you. You deserve it.
The best amateur research I've done indicates the cordisol provided to your body by the Prednisone is most effective when taken first thing in the morning, and is less effective as the day progresses. This is due to the body's normally natural Cordisol release being based on your body's circadian rhythm. There's something called a circadian Cordisol "slope" .... High in the morning and diminishing toward evening. This why you should also get out into the sun in the morning, and avoid waking up in bed for extended time in a dark room. But it's also why you why you want your highest physical activity to occur in the first part of the day, and slow down towards evening, .... avoiding staring at a bright screen in bed at night.
This information I have personally found useful and experienced results

Hi, my rheumatologist suggested taking a divided dose, half with breakfast, half with dinner. But I experienced interrupted sleep, so then we tried full dose with breakfast. It's better for me, but still unpredictable. Most days I have hints of flare, other days are OK. Truthfully I just have to push myself hard to get going. Sometimes no matter what I do, I am stuck. But grateful for what this medication does, albeit falling short of my initial expectations.
